Here is the story from Deadline:

Following the big ratings success of The Sound Of Music Live!last December, NBC set a live production of Peter Pan as its next event musical. With that project in the casting stages, NBC has lined up a third live musical production, The Music Man, for 2015, the network’s chairman Bob Greenblatt announced at the NBC upfront presentation today.  The 1957 Broadway musical tells the tale of “Professor” Harold Hill, a conman musical instrument salesman who falls for a local librarian. The previous TV version of the musical on ABC in 2003 starred Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth.

NBC seems to be rebranding itself somewhat as the network that annually puts on a live musical performance (Sound of Music, then Peter Pan later this year and now this).

Who do you hope lands the leads?

Awesome! I normally don’t follow stage plays, but Music Man is one of my all-time favourites!

      Some names come to mind:

Matthew Broderick (this would be the obvious choice I’d guess and a great one but is he too old for the role?)
James Maslow (This could be a fun one)
Andy Karl (This would be great to see)
NPH (This is another one that would be great but too obvious of a choice though?)
Billy Porter (I think he would be great in the role)
Patina Miller (Love her voice. Anything she is in, I will watch)
Laura Osnes (She is Broadway perfection in terms of vocals in my opinion but a little bland)
Rob McClure (Heard he was great in Chaplin)
Jeremy Jordan (A long shot but would be great)
Norbert Leo Butz  (another one that would be great)
Michelle Williams (She did “Cabert” so maybe?)
Megan Hilty (She was great on Smash……and NBC loves her)
Laura Benanti  (She would be a great)
Sarah Jessica Parker (She did broadway before. Pair her up with her husband and watch the sparks fly)
Kristin Chenoweth (The obvious choice? Maybe. She was great in the movie)
Zachery Levi (Yes this is a long shot but it would be so cool)
Mandy Moore (Great voice. Personality. Is a good fit)
    Kristin Bell (Maybe?)
Jennifer Hudson (I always wanted to see her do “The Music Man” in some form. This could be it)
    Indina Menzel  (Maybe?)

My problem with Broderick isn’t so much his age, as it is the fact that he was Harold Hill in ABC’s TV-movie version, and some people might think, “Didn’t they just do this?”  (What do you mean, that was in 2003?)

True. In aweird way, I am hoping for a Zachery Levi casting with Patina Miller as Marion. Saying that if NPH gets it……not a bad option but he definately would bring in a ton of viewers.
