I couldn’t find a thread for this, so I wanted to start a discussion. While I haven’t seen much buzz for the show online, I have seen plenty of advertisement and know many people who have watched it.
Rotten Tomatoes: 92% — “Smartly unpredictable and led by powerful performances from a talented cast, the darkly compelling The Sinner sinks its hooks in fast and doesn’t let go.”August 7, 2017 at 4:50 pm #1202177796
LMAO I was less than 5 seconds way from making this thread and then I saw this lol.
I haven;t seen it yet but I’ve barely heard any buzz. It has fair reviews and good ratings. If NatGeo can buy there way into the limited series race than why can’t this?August 7, 2017 at 4:59 pm #1202177801
Is this a limited series? If so, yeah it could get in, assuming there’s a wide open 5th spot like usual. I don’t know if Biel could get in with it.August 7, 2017 at 5:12 pm #1202177806
I watched the first episode today and thought it was decent. It definitely was not perfect (MILD SPOILERS: the flashbacks and a certain scene with one of the detectives I could have done without). But overall, this show was my biggest surprise this year. I did not know it was coming out until I started seeing the ads everywhere.
The biggest surprise was Jessica Biel! I never thought of her as a “good” actress. And, sure, some of her choices here are somewhat strange, but I truly enjoyed her performance. The show is giving me some serious The Night Of vibes and, while it certainly hasn’t reached that mark, I think it deserves some visibility.
I think Biel could actually be a contender for some awards recognition. At the least, I think she will be in at the Globes, which might give her some more buzz. Really though, it is a true awards-bait performance. She gets to cry, scream, go catatonic, and everything in between.August 7, 2017 at 5:14 pm #1202177807

I’m pretty sure its a limited series. What with American Crime out and Fargo also perhaps not coming back, I could see it take a few nominations. Probably not series, but I actually think Biel could be a contender.August 7, 2017 at 5:18 pm #1202177809
Yes, it’s a limited series!
I watched the first episode last night. It was much better than I expected it to be, especially Jessica Biel. I could definitely see her being nominated across the board.August 7, 2017 at 5:31 pm #1202177824
After watching this I can see Biel getting in if there is enough buzz , Some of the tree obsessed detective scenes were a turnoff thoughAugust 7, 2017 at 5:36 pm #1202177826
Speaking of crime story limited series on smaller channels with a 71 on metacritic staring a hasbeen that nobody is talking about, did anybody watch Manhunt: Unibomber? This doesn’t belong in this thread but I herd nobody talking about it at all and it had decent reviews. You would think a show with Jane Lynch, Paul Bettany, and Sam Worthington would get people talking.August 7, 2017 at 6:05 pm #1202177847
I didn’t like any part of thisAugust 7, 2017 at 6:22 pm #1202177866
This was decent. It has some very rough moments but showed promise. Biel was very good. As was Abbot. Some of the dialogue, however, was cringeworthy. I didn’t like Bill Pullman. Not because he wasn’t good but because his dialogue was so bad. The show overall though was interesting. I liked it even though it had a lot of flaws.
My Grade: C+
MVP: Jessica BielAugust 7, 2017 at 8:37 pm #1202178041
Jessica Biel may not be even nominated for a Golden Globe. Big Little Lies and Feud ladies only leave one empty slot and that will probably go to Elisabeth Moss who will also have buzz from The Handmaid’s Tale. Not to mention, “Top of the Lake” will be way more critically acclaimed than “The Sinner”.August 7, 2017 at 8:49 pm #1202178062
This show is awfulAugust 8, 2017 at 8:16 am #1202178635
Ok so I couldn’t get sleep last night and flipping through the channels and came across this show. It was a very pleasant surprise. Kinda gives me “Secrets and Lies” (Season One) vibes.
