I’m hoping season 2 is as good as the best parts of season 1. Hopefully Kevin’s storyline will be more cheeses and Kate’s storyline will be more fleshed out. I was also a fan of Susan Kelechi Watson so hopefully they give her more to do.

I have a feeling season 2 will get a bad case of “we’re a hit now so let’s have a ton of famous guest stars and center the show around them instead of good writing”.

I am fairly confident that this was at best in fifth place in terms on drama series nominees, so I’m curious to see how this does at guilds. It seems that next year will also be fairly competitive so I’m wondering if it stays in.

I think it’ll stay in. Usually shows that break out the way This is Us did tend to stay for at least one more season before they are dropped, even if they end up having a sophomore slump.

If that’s a new poster, why is Ron Cephas Jones in it? Is he really going to be in this season that much?

Also, people should be more than prepared for a huge second season slump. It’s sooo typical of these shows. Not to mention being out of awards competition. There are more than enough examples of these things happening.

Its funny, even though I liked Westworld’s first season better than This Is Us’ first season, I think the former has a much better shot at falling off a cliff in regards to quality with its second season. There was so much shit that doesn’t really add up well in Westworld’s finale in hindsight, even though I loved the episode on its own. “Wyatt” IS Dolores?! What happened to Ashley, and did Maeve need to come back to the park to find a robot girl that looks like her daughter who probably does not even remember her?! I think This Is Us is going to have a much easier time believably fleshing out its characters and progressing its storyline in a cohesive manner compared to Westworld, the second season of which I can’t help but worry about. This Is Us is such a straightforward family saga, I can’t help but wonder how they could mess this up. My only hope is that they don’t stupidly drag out the mystery of how Jack died until the series finale. That would just be such manipulative and obnoxious bullshit.

I think the series will thrive in season 2 and become even better. It wasn’t fifth place in the nominees. This is competitive to win Drama Series outright this fall as a major victory and resurgence for the networks. Everyone automatically expects the “sophomore slump” b/c that’s what we’ve been conditioned to respond to over the years, which is pretty jaded. Love the poster art as well. Jones is said to be on recurring status and will be seen in multiple flashbacks from what I’ve read.

The Crown, Stranger Things, Westworld, and Better Call saul all did better than This is Us at guilds. The Handmaid’s Tale did better than it at nominations. All 5 got writing and directing over This is Us. Saying This is Us was fifth place at best is generous, if I had to bet I’d say sixth. I seriously doubt it is competitve for the win. I won’t entirely discount it though.

The guilds aren’t the Emmys. “This Is Us” wasn’t fifth anything, and it can win Drama Series.

The guilds are not the Emmys, but they are precursors that have very similar voters to the branches they specialize in, thus usually being very reliable when it comes to predicting the Emmys.

Omg this is awesome. But as I mentioned earlier I was scared it would go crazy with guest stars and ruin itself.

I’m also excited for this. I think it will work. I hope NBC will not market the episode as like “Hey, everyone! Stallone will be on the next episode of This Is Us! This is going to be awesome and tear jerking again!” which will ruin it.

Season 2 will reveal a “darker side” to Jack and explore the circumstances surrounding his death (I’ll believe it when I see it). Jones will still be a significant part of the series, like I mentioned before.

The story I am looking forward to the most is the adoption storyline. I think the show will retain the same quality it had its first season. It’s a very simple show with a gimmick that hadn’t really been done before. Not rocket science, so hopefully they don’t mess with what makes the show works. The true wins are it’s ratings, the narrative (HUZZAH broadcast TV), and the awards it’s gotten. And most importantly job security for the cast and crew for at least another two yrs.
