I generally agree with the first list but I would put “A Private Life” much higher in the top 5, I was so moved by that episode I thought Michael C. Hall should have won the EMMY hands down, but I still haven’t seen “The Shield”.

Obviously, the pilot and finale (and many of the other aforementioned episodes) are excellent, but one of the most moving for me was “The Invisible Woman” in Season 2. Frances Conroy gave such a sad and haunting performance. It has still stuck with me today. Shame she’s Emmy-less.

So much of SFU hasn’t aged well or was always overrated. Some episodes that were once somewhat affecting now come off mushy and overwrought. That’s mostly a sign of the medium evolving when it comes to character focused drama. While great moments are scattered throughout the whole series, very few episodes are in that nice spot between ambitious, emotional and subversive without being morbid, self-serving and/or ridiculous.

    1. All Alone
    2. Pilot
    3. A Private Life
    4. I’m Sorry, I’m Lost
    5. Nobody Sleeps
    6. Everyone’s Waiting
    7. I’ll Take You
    8. Rainbow of Her Reasons
    9. The Invisible Woman
    10. The Room

    1. season one
    2. season two
    3. season five
    4. season three
    5. season four

It’s a shame that the finale didn’t win either Directing or Writing. It was one of the best episodes on TV ever  and probably the best series finale ever created.

I don’t think SFU is overrated. But everybody has an opinion

I think the first two seasons and the final arc from Ecotone to Everyone’s Waiting wa flawless stunning television.

In between ths show was highs and lows. Season four was particulalrly weak.

    1. All Alone: devasting experience.
    2. Everyone’s Waiting: that final sequence.
    3. Pilot: Few minutes and I knew I was in until the end.
    4. A Private Life: don’t need to explain.
    5. I’m Sorry I’m Lost: why Peter Krause hasn’t an Emmy?
    6. Nobody Sleeps: definition of an ensemble
    7. I’ll Take You: Kause and Griffiths’ personal Whitecaps
    8. The Invisible Woman: one of the most touching.
    9. Ecoton: brave choice
    10. In Place Of Anger: Emmy winner Patricia Clarkson

    1.) A Private Life
    2.) Everyone’s Waiting
    3.) Pilot
    4.) All Alone
    5.) The Invisible Woman

    10.) Static

Seasons 3 and 4 were horrid, season 2 was pretty good, and 1 and 5 were brilliance. I cannot believe how many of you have “That’s My Dog” on your lists. Different strokes, but that was a HORRIBLY executed example of Emmy-bait. Yes, pretty much everyone in this cast should have won an Emmy.

While most go coo-coo for “Everyone’s Waiting” I think “All Alone” is probably the most straightforwardly devastating and well done episode of the series.
