Episode 7 is probably my favorite so far. Hoffmann is still getting the best material to work with. She’s the only one who I’d say is worthy of an emmy nomination. Tambor and Light have both had some great moments, but overall have had very little to do, especially Light. It’s unfortunate because Light was my favorite performance of the year for season 3 and Tambor was amazing last year too, and is supposed to be the center of the show, but they don’t treat him like it.

It is worth noting about episode 7 of this season “Barbar the Borrible” that Gaby Hoffmann herself directed that episode which can only help her Emmy chances. That is, IF she gets nominated and IF she decides to submit this as her episode and IF enough voters in the actors branch decide to watch her episode submission and IF she really does end up having the best episode of the entire line-up (Is she funny in it?) and finally, IF Transparent probably not getting back into Series doesn’t hurt her and all the other actors in general. I know that’s a TON of IFs, but my basic point about her directing the episode being a huge plus still stands.

I really couldn’t say, I don’t know if there’s a lot of history with actors getting help because they directed their episode. She could submit it if nominated. She’s definitely not funny though. If she was like the first one out this year, and with Hahn being gone, then maybe she can get nominated again, but I have a hard time seeing it since the show is trending downward and with the huge drop in acclaim that should only continue. The actors still seem to like the show though, so if they’re watching it they’ll know this is a better season for her than last year. Sorry, I don’t know if I really answered your question.

Good enough for me. I was trying to mostly positive about its Emmy chances for you because I know you’re a fan. The fact they picked Kathryn Hahn out of the entire cast to nominate this year proves that enough of them really do watch the show, so I will call Gaby Hoffmann an on-the-rader contender for Comedy Supporting Actress and nothing more at this point. Thanks for the response.

I’ve seen the first two episodes. I can definitely see where the criticism is coming from, but I would still recommend to watch it if you’re a fan of the show. It’s definitely not a precipitous drop in quality. I’m not feeling Josh’s storyline at all. Gaby Hoffman is bringing her A-game already, and this season seems to be a lot more Ali-centric, so be warned.

I’ve actually laughed more in these two episodes than for most of the show, so that’s something. Light hasn’t had much to do, but she was very good in the little she did in episode 2. Same for Tambor. The last few minutes of episode 2 are great for him, but I definitely hope to see more.

Can somebody confirm if Kathryn Hahn appeared during the season? How many episodes is she in?

Watched episode 8, it wasn’t very good but Tambor and Light gave great performances. This could be both of their submissions if nominated. Ali didn’t have as much to do here but had one very good scene. With Shelly’s part, it felt forced to me, but her performance helped sell it. I haven’t cared at all about the Sarah being a sex addict storyline but it’s getting better towards the end. Shawkat won’t be guest eligible, and she has no chance in supporting, she’s kind of being wasted.

I liked episode 9 quite a bit too, although I still don’t think this season has had a great episode. The whole cast was great here, and it’s beautifully shot, but it still doesn’t seem like that much is happening. Ali seems to be the only character making progress and everyone else is sort of going through the motions. The first 3 seasons evoked more emotion out of me than any show on television (besides the leftovers), but that isn’t happening this year.

I finished the season. Didn’t like the finale much. Definitely doesn’t feel like a finale, and not much really happened this season. I’m pretty disappointed with the whole thing, but I still watched it all in less than 24 hours so it’s not that bad I guess. Hopefully it bounces back next year. I’d rate the season as a C+, and Hoffmann is the MVP of the season.

Finished the season. It was much lighter and happier than the prior seasons. I think that’s the reason this season was more uneven bc (with the exception of Ali and maybe a little of Shell) no character had any conflict or felt emotionally tormented throughout the season. I also thought the flashbacks this season were less effective than they’ve been in prior seasons.

Jay Duplass didn’t have much of an arc at all this season which really sucks since he is great at playing emotionally tortured and tormented and he should’ve been nominated the past 2 seasons but had nothing to do this year. No Kathryn Hahn. Best shot at guest would be the actress that plays Davina if she’s eligible and I don’t think she is.

Amy Landecker and Ron Huebel were essentially happy and lighthearted the entire season. Those two going to Israel kinda halted their storyline right in it’s tracks. And it didn’t really hold that much emotional weight since Alia Shawkat’s character was barely developed.

Tambor and Light were great as always this season. I wish Maura’s sister Byrna had more screentime and more of an arc this season bc the actress seemed pretty good and it was the perfect time for her to have a storyline. Hoffman was also great.

There were no standout episodes. Episode 8 will probably be the writing directing push. This season felt like watching just a regular family vacation.

I think Alexandra Billings (Davina) was only in 4 episodes, so she’ll be eligible for guest actress, but she won’t be nominated anyways.

I saw the first two episodes and they were okay. I definitely see where the criticism is coming from. Hoffman is getting some good material though, and I think that depending on the rest of the season, she might be able to sneak back in that very open category next year.

So this season was…not good. Last year felt like there were no major storylines, and this year that is even more amplified. The trip to Israel dominates the entire season, but besides finding Maura’s father (which happens before the rest of the family even arrives), nothing really happens on this trip. Shelly’s revelation at the end of episode eight happens and then what? Davina breaks up with her husband for what purpose? Ali becomes a social justice warrior and it’s fine, but what’s she gonna do? Sarah’s storyline was a huge waste of the funniest character. And Josh consistently had nothing to do besides brood at his mom and talk to ghost Rita. At least the performances are still good, though I really don’t know if I would personally nominate anyone for this season. It is a shame that something was just so off about this season, but maybe now I understand why Soloway is stepping down as showrunner. A very disappointing season.

I read on IMDb that Kathryn Hahn appeared during the season premiere? Can somebody confirm if it’s true?
