We’re going to do a piece on whether Sarah Paulson will earn two Emmy noms this year and we need examples of when this has happened in recent years. How many actors or actresses have earned dual nods since the year 2000?

Kathy Bates for Harry’s Law (Lead Actress Drama) and Two And A Half Men (Guest Comedy Actress) — she won for the latter, her first Emmy in her third decade of being nominated. (2012)

Don’t forget Allison Janney. She even won both of them at the same year.

In 2003, Brad Garrett was nominated for Gleason, and  Everybody Loves Raymond, for which he won. He was also a co-host that year. In 2014, Allison Janney was nominated for Mom, and Masters of Sex, winning both. Stockard Channing also won for both The West Wing, and The Matthew Shepard Story in 2002.

Jane Lynch has done it twice (although once was for hosting and narrating so it probably doesn’t count).

2010 – Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Glee) [won] and Guest Actress in a Comedy (Two and a Half Men) [nominated]

2014 –  Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program (Hollywood Game Night) [won] and Narrator (Wildlife Specials: The Spy Collection) [nominated]

Jean Smart (2001)— nomination for “The District”, win for “Frasier”.

Neil Patrick Harris (2010)– Nominated for “How I Met Your Mother” and won for “Glee”. He also won for hosting the Tony Awards that year as well.

Cloris Leachman is missing. Cloris Leachman ALWAYS needs to be researched first in these circumstances.

2006 Won Guest Actress for Malcolm in the Middle and nominated for Mrs Harris.
2005 Nominated for Guest Actress for Malcolm in the Middle and Joan of Arcadia

William H Macy in 2000. Lead Actor for Slight Case of Murder and Guest Actor for Sports Night. (Plus his dual nominations for Lead Actor and Writer of The Wool Cap and Door to Door, winning both for the latter. But I’m asuming the thread is for acting).

I’m wondering if Regina King can get it this year for both American Crime and The Leftovers? She obviously has better material in the latter, but still!

I wanted to comment this, but the piece isn’t about deserving two noms. Let’s be honest, her performance in The Leftovers won’t be nominated even though it’s better than anything they will nominate. She’ll get back in for American Crime though.
