Discuss the new Variety Sketch and Variety Talk show categories here.
Choose the nominees for both categories in our predictions center.
We haven’t heard back from the networks about several of these shows yet and are strictly taking guesses where they belong. There certainly aren’t enough sketch shows to justify an entire new category with six nominees.
If you see any errors or omissions, speak up.March 30, 2015 at 4:02 pm #345040
I’m assuming SNL’s slot will be taken over by Oliver but I would be on the lookout for James Corden. His show is already viral in its first weekMarch 30, 2015 at 4:31 pm #345041
Late-night comedy shows are both sketches and interviews so you really can’t say they’re just talk and as for the sketch category I can only count four sketch comedy shows, how can that be an entire category? Can anyone else think of more?March 30, 2015 at 4:59 pm #345042
Did you look at the prediction center yet? There are 10 listed.
Key and Peele
Inside Amy Schumer
Comedy Comedy Bang Bang
Whose Line is it Anyway?

Yeah, even though I love a lot of the shows in Variety Sketch, there really aren’t enough to warrant SIX nominees. I guess we’ll see what happens.
Obvious locks at this point:
Saturday Night Live
Inside Amy Schumer
Key & Peele
Beyond that, I guess @midnight has visibility (considering it was on after The Colbert Report back when that aired) to be the no. 5 slot.
And then it’s just a free for all. I would love for Comedy Bang Bang to get in there but I don’t know how much visibility it has compared to Comedy Central sketch shows like Drunk History or Kroll Show.March 30, 2015 at 10:57 pm #345044
Yes @Midnight was the other one I was forgetting. I think that’ll have a shot at getting in and I guess Kroll Show due to it being the final season of that show.March 30, 2015 at 11:41 pm #345045
Does “The Soup” stand a chance in hell of being nominated now???March 30, 2015 at 11:47 pm #345046
Can somebody please update the Dream Emmys? OITNB isnt in Drama yet, and there are a lot of people/series that arent in there yetMarch 31, 2015 at 8:26 am #345047
The lineups for both are pretty clear.
Key and Peele
I really wish Conan would get back in.March 31, 2015 at 8:56 am #345048
Does anyone think there is a chance Craig Ferguson gets in? His final stretch was more legendary than most others, and his final episode (up until the Leno interview) rivalled Johnny Carson finale.March 31, 2015 at 9:58 am #345049
I don’t think Craig will make it in sadly. Especially with a potential Letterman farewell nomination. If Letterman gets back in he will knock out Oliver or KimmelMarch 31, 2015 at 10:02 am #345050

Oh damn, I didn’t realize Letterman’s final show would be in May – I assumed it would be later. Oh well, there goes my hopes of Craig getting recognizedMarch 31, 2015 at 11:29 am #345051

Craig just got nominated for a Daytime Emmy for hosting Celebrity Name Game which he so deserves to win! I think that’ll be his chance for gold this yearMarch 31, 2015 at 11:47 am #345052
ThemeParks4Life, why Kroll Show when The Soup already has an Emmy nomination?
Of course, we do not actually know what category The Soup will end up in, as it is neither a talk nor a sketch show.
The Emmy rulebook says that there will be six nominees per category, but also says on the same page that the number of nominees in a category cannot exceed a third of the contenders on the ballot. There were only thirty-five on the combined ballot last year and most of those were talk shows. So what rule supercedes the other when there are not eighteen sketch shows on the ballot?
