I loved the discussion over Downton Abbey. What a shame it will be when The Good Wife or Boardwalk Empire or Game of Thrones get snubbed in its favor. Not to mention Justified and Sons of Anarchy with zero chance of getting in.

And sometimes I think I hate Game of Thrones, but I can totally say it’s more deserving than Downton Abbey. Don’t get me wrong, I liked both seasons, but it’s not really that deserving over these contenders.

I must say I loved this video slugfest, but I was a bit ticked off about Tom’s rant about Dustin Hoffman and Luck. I’m not a Hoffman fan boy, in fact, I think Kramer vs Kramer shouldn’t have won BP and that Martin Sheen should have won best actor for Apocalypse Now that year (despite Sheen not being nominated). I also am not gaga about All the President’s Men as some people are, though I recognize it is a pretty good movie. However, I do love Rain Man and Tootsie, and of course, Luck. Luck‘s writing and directing was spot on 90% of the time. His performance was great and he deserves a nomination (not a win, though, far from it). But of course, that show isn’t for everyone. It’s got unconventional dialogue, pace and storylines. I hated the pilot when it first came out, but then a few months later I rewatched it patiently, I saw the second episode, and I was hooked. The rest is history.

But I’m really looking forward to Tuesday’s live webcast. I think we should discuss movies and miniseries as well.

I think Justified has a shot. Last year it was able to break through into 3 acting races (winning one). It has support in the academy. To me it seems like a similar position that FNL was in last year, broke into acting the year before. However the difference is there are no open slots in the race this year and Justified buzz may not be as high as FNL’s final season. Because those 7 shows seem so strong it’s hard to imagine anything else breaking in but the Emmys often throw curve balls we are not expecting. I wouldn’t be too surprised at a Justified nomination. The question is what would it bump? Could we see HBO completly shut out?

Oh and we’ll try to get some mini-series chat in on Tuesday. The hour goes so quickly!
