The new NBC sitcom “Welcome To The Family” debuts next thursday at 830.

It stars Mike O’Malley, Mary McCormack, Ricardo Charvra, Justina Machado, Joey Haro and Elle Rae Peck…   I saw the pilot episode today on-demand, and I have to say it’s way better than I thought it would be.

Anybody else planning to watch this?

The pilot is up on NBC’s site. I watched it, terrible. Even though Parks and Rec got low ratings, it’ll still do better than this.

Much better than I expected, but still not amazing. I did prefer it to The Michael J. Fox Show, though. Mike O’Malley was great, per usual, no one in the supporting cast was grating, and we’ve finally managed to have a show featuring latinos that doesn’t make them into wacky caricatures. I hope it can stick around just for that, because shows that are able to do that are unfortunately few and far between. It definitely has potential to get better though.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be… Yes, it’s broad and fairly traditional in it’s storytelling, but there is potential here. I think the female roles need to be expanded more, but I really can see this premise lasting a long time.   Mike O’Malley has come a long way since “The Mike O’Malley Show”.

As much as I like this show so far, my one concern is that the arguging between the two fathers is going to grow old and stale quickly…

This series has cancellation written all over it. Will it survive longer than Sean Saves the World? Probably.

They’ll both get cancelled at the same time and NBC’s new schedule will be Community at 8, MJF at 8:30, About a Boy at 9, and Parks and Rec at 9:30 (MJF and P&R could be vice versa).
