It’s hard to know if the Emmy episode submissions still matter under the changed rules, but I think it still holds true that often getting the nomination is the biggest battle. What actors have win-worthy episodes, but are longshots for nominations?

Jay Duplass can win Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Season 2 Episode 7 of Transparent, “The Book of Life”. I also think Noel Wells can win Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Season 1 Episode 9 of Master of None, “Mornings”.

Michelle Dockery and Caitriona Balfe both have knockout episodes on the chance that either is nominated for Drama Actress. Tuppence Middleton (Sense8) and Jim Broadbent (War and Peace) are two others who immediately spring to mind. Also, as much as she is either loved or hated around here, if Lea Michele was spontaneously nominated for Scream Queens the season finale would be one heck of a baity tape for her.

The Carmichael Show would sweep the Comedy Supporting categories with “The Blues” for Loretta Devine and “The Funeral” for David Alan Grier. Those are the kind of broad, showy performances tinged with just enough emotion that Emmy voters love.

Off the top of my head,
    Eva Green “The Nightcomers”
Keri Russell “The Magic of David Copperfield V: The Statue of Liberty Disappears”
    Jon Bernthal “Penny and Dime”
Vincent D’onofrio “Seven Minutes in Heaven” (I might be remembering this wrong tho)
Jane Fonda “The Coup” / “The Bender”

    I’ll probably add some more.

Agreed with plenty of these, and I’ll add Aya Cash from You’re the Worst, who would be a serious threat if nominated with the episode submission “There Is Not Currently a Problem.” Or any episode from the back half of the season.

Bobby Canavale can win with at least half of his episodes. That is, if they vote on the performance
