As someone who has loved watching The Emmys for over ten years I always when the nominees are listed and they show a clip from those nominees’s shows when their name is called. But since 2012 this has only happened for one acting category. In 2011 it was awesome because they showed clips for every acting category except actress comedy because of the paegent thing. They even showed clips for the writing nominees. I am sick of the silly videos for comedy writing where they ask “What’s the hardest part of writing comedy?” Those are barely funny and people don’t care about the answer. Please I seriously they bring back the nominee clips. It’s not just I love seeing my favorite actors’ work I want to see clips from shows I don’t watch I think everyone should get to see clips from shows they don’t know so they might want to check out those shows. Thoughts???

I 100% agree! I would love it if all of the awards shows did clips. Both the Emmys and Oscars have been inconsistent about it, and it seems like the more bits they pack in between the awards, the fewer clips there are. I guess that’s a fairly obvious correlation because of the runtime limitations, but I would always choose the clips.

The three-hour time limit happened, probably.  I say, start the Emmys at 7:30 Eastern, with a half-hour red carpet show, and add the guest acting categories.  Of course, this has problems of its own; the start of the Emmys would run up against the end of a football game on another channel, and out west, the live broadcast would start at 4:30 and the repeat (if any) wouldn’t end until 11:30.

But why did they choose to air some people’s clips, and other categories they did not? They seemed very random in which categories they thought deserved attention to, and which did not.

They should just resign themselves to the fact that they’ll go ten or fifteen minutes over with the clips.

At least they give viewers at home a glimpse of the performance. But no, we needed the spinning mug segment.

I might be mistaken but I think the only category they showed clips for was Limited/Movie Supporting Actress. They probably have a version for each category with clips and one without. The question is why use clips for only one? I could see them using it for the first category of the night and then stop, but if they thought they we’re running, late, why use clips for one in the middle of the show? Was that version used by mistake?

Of course the question remains, what’s more important, clips or runtime? We’ll always say clips, but they’ll usually always say runtime. Shame.

The bottom line is if they just cut to the nominees in the audience it’s like it is The Golden Globes and I do like when the Golden Globes do that but the globes do not judge their votes based on one episode the EMMYS are supposed to so I want to see a clip of that one episode. If the SAG awards can do it they should be able to but without dumb comedy bits like a spinning mug.

Showing dialogue clips for only one category annually is so random.  There should be clips for every category or at least the eight comedy and drama acting ones.  I do not really care what it takes, but I imagine not much, since the show is three hours long.  I do not like not having writing and directing clips because it is often hard to tell what shows the talking heads represent, not to mention that they are very hit-or-miss in terms of laughs.

I am pretty annoyed at the directing and writing videos because A: they keep alternating each year between what characters they to those for, either do them each year for each category or don’t do them at all and B: they’re barely funny I liked the ones in 2013 but this year’s sucked and I prefered when we saw clips of the directors in director mode that was cool.
