I love Arrested Development. Greatest comedy series of all time

I, like many others, are predicting it to make a huge splash next year at the Emmys.

However, what if its not eligible for major awards because its not being aired on a major network, all the episodes are being released at once and it can only be watched on the internet.

I hope that it can be nominated for all of the awards we’ve been predicting it for, but what will replace the open slots if its not eligible?

From what I can see, many people are predicting it to be in the following categories:
– Outstanding Comedy Series
– Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (Jason Bateman)
– Outstanding Supp. Actor in a Comedy Series (Will Arnett and Jeffrey Tambor)
– Outstanding Supp. Actress in a Comedy Series (Jessica Walter)

Who would take up these positions if AD isn’t nominated?

THANK YOU Emmyfanboy for addressing this. I, for one, am quite miffed as to how this would be eligible in the categories people are predicting it for? I don’t really see how it could be eligible considering the way in which these episodes are going to be released…

The Academy should just make it eligible from now since Internet/streaming is where things are heading, anyway. Netflix’s Lilyhammer was eligible for Emmys this year, so I don’t see why high profile projects like Arrested Development and House of Cards wouldn’t be.

Unless something has changed, it’s eligible. If “Lilyhammer” was deemed eligible for debuting on Netflix, why wouldn’t “AD” get the same treatment?

Lilyhammer was eligible.  So will AD.

I love Arrested Development. Greatest comedy series of all time

Over All in the Family, Cheers, I Love Lucy, Seinfeld, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, etc?

Arrested Development will be eligible, but we can’t be sure the Emmys will recognize it. They might not care for Netflix.

I don’t know about greatest of all time, but it’s in the top five without any question.

Top 5? Maybe for some people but not for me. I would not put it above I Love Lucy, The MAry Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls, Seinfeld, All in the Family, The Cosby Show……

Here is what the rules say:

Programs (and individual achievements within them) are eligible for nomination if they were
originally aired or originally transmitted during the eligibility year in any primetime period (6:00 PM
– 2:00 AM) (i) by broadcast to at least 50% of the total potential U.S. television audience or, (ii) by
pay/basic cable transmissions (including by way of example so-called basic cable, pay cable, pay
television, pay-per-view, interactive cable and broadband) to markets representing at least 50% or
more of households in the United States.

Since there are categories dedicated to “interactive media,” I don’t see why Internet-based shows would not be eligiible in other categories.

“Arrested Development” is certainly better than “The Golden Girls” and “The Cosby Show”. Just because they are more universal and accessible and heartwarming doesn’t mean they’re better. Hell, I’d say it’s better than “All In The Family”, a show americans seem to love very much, but having watched a few episodes, it just feels dated and very dependant on topical humor.  I know it’s very influential and left a huge mark on american culture, but it has not aged well.

If you’re gonna put anything above “Arrested Development”, why not “The Dick Van Dyke Show” or “The Honeymooners”? And even so, objectively speaking, the legacy of “Arrested Development” is still too recent to tell how it fares in comparison, but it looks to be in a good place for future discussions on the subject. But you can’t automatically consider an old show better than a recent one just because it’s more popular and, well, older.

It’s undeniably the greatest comedy of all time.

I was about to mention the Dick van dyke show and the honeymooners, but i’m not about to spend 10 minutes of my day listing shows. Anyway AD is a good show but i will argue that it is NOT the best show ever created…….. I mean its just not.
