In 2008 this interesting category was cruelly and idiotically taken away. What if it hadn’t?

Who would have been nominated the past 4-5 years? Who would have won?

Kristen Wiig certainly would have been nominated at some point over the last few years. I imagine Ricky Gervais could have received a nomination or win in 2011. Neil Patrick Harris could have won for his Tony work.

Bill Hader and Andy Samberg too. Maybe Timberlake for SNL too?

2009 — Tina Fey, Saturday Night Live
2010 — Betty White, Saturday Night Live
2011 — Ricky Gervais, 68th Golden Globes (not sure about this one — it certainly wouldn’t go to James Franco and Anne Hathaway)
2012 — Neil Patrick Harris, 65th Tony Awards
2013 — Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, 70th Golden Globes

    Blah. Bring this category back.

2013 — Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, 70th Golden Globes

Which one?  The category is for individuals – co-hosts did not enter as a team.

NPH would be one of the prime contenders later this year for the 2013 Tonys. Talk about a tour-de-force (and so much better than his work with the Emmys a few months later).

The real cruelty is that had this category remained in place, Stephen Colbert would have been nominated each time a won in 2010 and 2013. Bring it back Emmys!!

This category would make other races really great too! With Emma Thompson, Amy Schumer, Audra MacDonald, Kate McKinnon out we would have seen some interesting nominees in those categories as well.

Hmm, from 1995-2007 the SNL nominees were Molly Shannon 00, Will Ferrell 01.

So I don’t know about these guesses.

Would Fred Armisen have been eligible here? If so, he would have gotten several nominations.

I’d really love this to be brought Back, it would make the comedy races much more interesting. SNL had a great season sure, but having 1/4 of the comedy acting nominees doesn’t seem right.

Plus award show hosts who do great work like NPH and Kimmel deserve more recognition. Sure, the special class program award exists, but I wasn’t even aware NPH had won for anything other than Glee before I started reading Goldderby articles
