I love the idea of anthologies to explore similar themes and genres in different ways year after year: horror (“American Horror Story”), crime (“American Crime Story”), crime and race (“American Crime”), crime in North Dakota (“Fargo”) — lots of crime actually. And soon “Feuds.”
What other topics, themes, settings, or genres would you like to see get an anthology treatment? This probably sounds pretentious, but I’d love to see David Simon do an anthology about different institutions. He did a great job of it already in his shows — “The Wire” alone covered police, politics, schools, and journalism. And of course I’d love to see him do more shows with Clarke Peters, Wendell Pierce, Khandi Alexander, Deirdre Lovejoy, Lance Reddick, James Ransone — and on, and on, and on.

We also have National Geographic’s upcoming “Genius” that will follow iconic innovators. First season covers Albert Einstein with Ron Howard directing the pilot. Who should play Einstein?
I want a sports related anthology. Real or fictional it doesn’t matter. There’s so much material they can explore.May 25, 2016 at 4:49 pm #1201841130
I think 24Emmy had a brilliant idea for a sports related anthology. I would like it done on something like HBO or Netflix. I would have each season cover 1-season in a given sport. I would have it be a scripted, fictional series.
Alternatively, they could take memorable sports seasons and document them in a scripted series as well.
Honestly, I’m just dying for somebody to to a limited-series about the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding clubbing of 1994.May 25, 2016 at 5:31 pm #1201841137
Spy anthology series about famous traitors.
Drug anthology series. Each season could be a different drug.May 25, 2016 at 5:43 pm #1201841139
There should be animated anthology where each season tackles a different story told in a different style of animation. First season, hand drawn. Second season, CG. Third season, stop motion, etc.May 26, 2016 at 8:11 am #1201841303

That sounds like a good idea. I’m surprised Ryan Murphy hasn’t found a way to do that already. Maybe season 2 of “American Crime Story.” 🙂May 26, 2016 at 2:03 pm #1201841467
Some type of war/international terror anthology series could be really intriguing – exploring global themes/various international wars
Like a real-life Homeland!
Yeah, I like that idea. Much more than one about sports (Kerrigan and Harding? No, thanks). Or at least something that we don’t already know how it ends up.May 26, 2016 at 6:40 pm #1201841526
Something about Snowden, though with a new movie coming out, it’s highly unlikely now.May 29, 2016 at 7:15 pm #1201842129
OMG! how could we not think of an anthology about award shows! Perhaps something similar to the Christopher Guest movie “For Your Consideration” except more serious and not comedic. This would be a perfect show for HBO to take on.
or something related to film making or television. Maybe an anthology about a fictional TV network and their pilot season.May 30, 2016 at 7:10 am #1201842214
I really liked the idea of anthology series about famous spies. With The Americans nearing its end, I think FX should start this trend.
1st season: Rosenbergs
2nd season: Mata Hari
3rd season: Shi Pei Pu
OR maybe an anthology series about serial killers, I really thought after having some of them in this last season of AHS, Ryan Murphy would make the second season of ACS about one of them, guess their trials were not so interesting.
1st Season: Jeffrey Dahmer (Come on Seth Gabel was so good at this role)
2nd Season: Jerry Brudos (could be interesting)
3rd Season: Aileen Wuornos (Idk is it still too early for a series about her?)
Other alternatives: Ted Bundy, The Carsons, The Copelands, John Wayne Gacy, H.H. Holmes
Or maybe 3-4 episodes series about famous assassinations
1st Season: Caesar
2nd Season: The 60’s: JFK, Malcolm X, MLK Jr, Bobby Kennedy (or have them all in different seasons.)
