I think Stephen Colbert gave the Greatest Acceptance Speech Ever when he accepted his first Emmy (best writing in variety series) saying, “Ah, Hollywood! All is forgiven!”

    Two things came to mind:

Elaine Stritch’s Emmy win for Elaine Stritch: At Liberty

The previously mentioned Stephen Colbert outburst: “I LOST TO BARRY MANILOW!! BARRY MANILOW!!! I LOST TO THE COPACABANA!!”…and then going on about how singing and dancing wasn’t the same kind of performing but he could’ve lost to Hugh Jackman because he was Wolverine.

The Stewart/Colbert bits from 2006 and 2007 are all-time classics.

Conan’s 2006 intro, culminating in the “To Catch a Predator” gag, is pretty great, too.

I remember when Wanda Sykes wandered through the crowd talking to celebrities…….she stopped at Bill Cosby and praised The Cosby Show ….then asked what the hell were you thinking with The Cosby Mysteries.  She also talked to Kim Cattrall and mentioned her nominations and losses to Doris Roberts….funny.  Wish it was on youtube.

    My top moments:

    2011 Beauty Pageant

    Julia/Amy 2012 speech

    Elaine Stritch’s speech

Conan’s opening video 2006 – The Office and Lost scenes were brilliant

I happen to think that Meritt Wever’s speech last year was unbelievably annoying and I hate how people think it’s the funniest thing they’ve ever heard or that it’s the greatest Emmy acceptance speech. Sure, it beats some of the false ‘prepared’ shopping lists from other past winners, but there’s a lot to be said for jotting down a few points and being sincere and composed a la Tony Hale, or even better having a funny anecdote prepared like Ty Burrell, who had one of my all-time favorite Emmy speeches.

In 2011, when Amy Poehler jumped to the stage, and the other ladies followed suit. I couldn’t stop LOL-ing. It was a gauntlet of emotions because I was then very annoyed and shocked that Melissa McCarthy won. Only then she gave a warm heartfelt speech and I was kind of okay with it.

And I will never ever forget Elaine Stritch’s win for At Liberty. “I can’t accept compliments. I have a probem. But tonight… Be my guest!”

I’ll repeat what others have already said, but my favorite Emmy speech belongs to the late great Elaine Stritch.

“Scott Saunders. I don’t like him very much, but he got the money for me to do the show. So tonight I love him!”

The Sweeney Sisters opening  number still gets makes me laugh.  I’ve heard on Goldderby that people in the audience didn’t really get it, which makes it funnier.

2007. Steve Carell presenting and “The Office” on-set interviews on him

Amy Poehler totally made wins of Melissa McCarthy and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (1st) the greatest moments I like to rewatch. Glasses bit in 2009 was not as classic but well done and memorable as well.
