I know that this post belongs in the “Modern Family” thread, but, screw it, I’m the landlord here and I want to put special focus on Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Poor Jesse is waaaay overdue to win. What episode should he submit to nail his best shot this year?

He has a couple of good options in the second part of the season, with “Flip Flop”, “The Future Dunphys” and “Best Men”, from what I can remember.

I would go with “The Future Dunphys” as his episode.

“The Wow Factor” stands out to me as a great choice for JTF

First, I just love your attitude in your post. “I’m the landlord here”. Totally true and I just love it!

Anyway, I like The Wow Factor for him. But I stopped watching MF this season about 2 episodes after Vergara had the baby.

I can’t really remember the episodes so I wound up looking at the synopsis of the episodes and see if it jogged my mind. I think these might be some of the better episodes, “A Slight at the Opera”, “Best Men”, “The Wow Factor”, “The Future Dunphys” and “Goodnight Gracie”.

The only thing about “The Wow Factor” is that Mitch comes off a bit as a douche as he squares off against the kid. But it is still quite a strong episode. What do you guys think?

Like you said, it won’t be enough for him to win, though.

Ty Burrell was just brilliant this season and JTF and Ed O’Neil are going to have to look long and hard for an episode where they’re not outshined by Burrell. If Ty submits well, Emmy #2 (should be 3) will be his.

I kind of agree. Ty Burrell has quite a number of good episodes. If Stonestreet had been nominated, there would be a bit more competition for Burrell among the Modern Family men. But you never know how the panel will react at times.

I’d say he’d be best off submitting either “Goodnight, Gracie” or “The Wow Factor.” The former has the funny sequence of him being a trial lawyer to a laundry list of different people. The latter has his vendetta match of handball with a schoolyard bully.

I believe that Diamond and the Rough and Goodnight, Gracie should be his and Burrell’s submissions. They’re both dynamite in both of them. Unfortunately, I’m not sure there’s any submission strategy that doesn’t favor Burrell the most.

I have to say I would LOVE to see Jesse take home the Emmy this year, I really think he deserves it. While Burrell and Stonestreet are terrific, they both play caricature roles, and O’Neill also plays a kind of archetypal role, whereas Ferguson has a hard time staying out of those larger than life characters’ shadows as ‘straight man’ Mitchell (forgive the irony). Ferguson is a super actor, honest and real, and I think he deserves the trophy this year.

To everyone, please explain why you think “The Future Dunphys” is a good showcase for him.

With Will Arnett not in contention for “Arrested Development” and Eric Stonestreet out of the mix, this category is completely up in the air. How great would it be to see Ferguson finally recognized for this role?

I think the choice should be “The Wow Factor” because there is a solo focus on him during those great playground scenes. Also, it doesn’t really help out Burrell or O’Neill (although Stonestreet would have had a benefit if nominated). The others being suggested give too much help to Burrell. Now, if Burrell actually submits the finale, then suddenly I think he has really helped out Ferguson without realizing it.

Great point Boomer! I have never thought about how it might helped Burrell or O’Neill in the episodes I suggested.

About “The Future Dunphys”, I think it is really the strength of the wordplay and the scenes where their lines all came out as politically incorrect which made it funny. whether it was during the scene where Lilly said she was gay or the restaurant scene about Lilly saying she hated Vietnam. That was more of an ensemble scene probably with both Stonestreet and Vergara but it was hilarious how the whole thing played out.
