Yeah, episode 10, the season finale, was one of the greatest episodes of Veep EVAH, but is it the best submission for Julia Louis-Dreyfus? Is Selena emphathetic enough? Does that matter? Selena is often a ferocious bitch and Julia keeps winning anyway.
Or what about eppy 2 — or a different choice?
ReplyJuly 18, 2015 at 12:51 am #354121Selina has never been likeable; calling her a bitch might be a exageration though. “Election Night” is maybe the most sympathetic she’s been this season, with nice moments with both Amy and Catherine, while still being funny and throwing great one-liners. It’s the only episode that is truly focused on her, too; it begins with a close up of her, it’s all about what she’s feeling. Unlike other years where JLD could pick any episode and win with it, the fourth season gives her only another viable winning option: “Joint Session”, with the speech scene that while is pretty great for her, is more of a ensemble piece in my opinion. I’d go with the finale without a doubt, it’s her best chance for a fourpeat.
By the way, episode 2 is a great acting moment for JLD, but should in no way be considered a tape for her. Aside from the big fighting scene, there’s barely nothing else. The moment might stick with voters, but mostly because of how bad you feel for Gary, and how Tony Hale dominated the scene. It’s his tape, not hers.

While “Joint Session” was the best season premiere they have ever done and it has the brilliant State of the Union address, think about the gravitas of “Election Night”: It’s the culmination of a two season plot line, and it has so much range, including Selina’s anxiety, her touching moment with Catherine, her sadness at conceding victory, her excitement when they discover she still has a chance, her epic, tirade and meltdown at the prospect of a tie or Tom becoming default President, and her tearing into Lennon Parham and Hugh Laurie’s characters. Plus, it has such a brilliant plot twist that the overall quality of the episode itself cannot hurt. Even some of the critics of this season of the show reacted very positively to the season finale and admitted that JLD could win with this submission (Ralph excluded, of course). I haven’t seen many of the competitors’ best works, including potential submissions by Shumer, Poehler, and Kudrow, but JLD would be very competitive for a fourth in a row with “Election Night”. Plus the popular vote aspect of this year may benefit her since she is so beloved by Emmy voters. That combination makes her very much competitive!

July 18, 2015 at 7:40 am #354123up until the finale i was sure her submittion was going to be Joint Session and i though she would have a good chance of winning. However, after Election Night, i think she has an even better chance. Election Night should be her tape, it almost play like a mini-movie it starts with selena adn end with her, she nervous, sad, upset, happy and then at the end hilariously breaks down in amy’s arms. dont get me wrong i LOVED Joint session and that speech had me in stitches. Its a tough choose but being that Joint Sessions is a better episode i would go with it.

That being said JLD is too smart to submit a bad episode so her best chance at winning is with “Election Night” but if she has winner’s remorse and wants to help a sister out go with your most unlikable episode “Mommy Meyer” where your character is at her most dispicable. I would also implore Kudrow, Tomlin, and Falco to do the same you’ve already won don’t choose your best choose your worse. As for you Schumer, it girl of the moment DO NOT submit the episode with JLD and the sketch “Last F***kable Day” you will only be hurting yourself.

This is not how it works and with all due respect, this statement is quite stupid.
