I know the Emmy audience can be very picky about Standing O’s, but I can picture a few this year. This is if they win, of course.
Allison Janney/Kate Mulgrew
Amy Poehler/Jon Hamm
Maybe Kathy Bates….?

I don’t think Janney or Mulgrew would get a standing ovation. Even Cranston. I could see Tyson, Poehler, Washington, and Larry Kramer getting standing ovations. Tyson and Kramer will probably win so they are your best bets. And I’m sure everyone will be on their feet for Breaking BadAugust 25, 2014 at 11:51 am #329502
Cicely Tyson, for sure. Cranston if he wins lead actor drama, though I could see them giving a SO to McConaughey just as easily. Billy Crystal too depending on how they manage the tribute.August 25, 2014 at 11:57 am #329503
The only person who can count on standing ovation is Cicely Tyson. Oh, and Larry Kramer. But Emmys aren’t Oscars, they almost never stand up.August 25, 2014 at 12:05 pm #329504
Yeah I think Billy Crystal will get one for the Robin Williams tributeAugust 25, 2014 at 12:43 pm #329505
Cicely TysonAugust 25, 2014 at 1:24 pm #329506
Cicely (because of the great performance, legend status, age)
Amy and/or Jon (because FINALLY!)
Matthew Mc (heralded performance, great few years, if he says “Alright, alright, alright” though, someone should take the Emmy back)
Kramer (his story, history of NH, journey)
Bomer? (if his performance really touched people)
Washington (only for the historic nature of her win in the category. Show has become damn near unwatchable to me. Love her though)
Billy (Robin)August 25, 2014 at 1:26 pm #329507
Orange Is The New Black. Everyone wants ratings to be irrelevent.August 25, 2014 at 1:37 pm #329508
When was the last time an actor got a standing ovation for winning a regular award? (I’m not being snarky, I’m actually curious because I don’t remember it happening in the last few years at least). I don’t think Melissa McCarthy’s win counts.
Cicely Tyson is the best bet…but mostly because she would take her time to get on the stage lol.August 25, 2014 at 1:40 pm #329509
Julia Roberts maybe? Who got standing ovations last year?
