Depending on who wins come Emmy night, who do you think will get a standing ovation. I’ve noticed it’s not very easy to get a standing ovation from the Emmy crowd. They usually only give them to legendary actors/actresses who have had a long succesful career (Betty White, Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, etc.)

However, some television stars who haven’t had very long careers do get a standing ovation. Melissa McCarthy was given a standing ovation last year when Rob Lowe announced her as the winner of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

So, who do you think will get a standing ovation come Emmy night if they manage to win.

I think Amy Poehler will definitely get a standing ovation if she finally wins her Comedy Lead Actress Emmy. She is on her seventh total nomination at the Emmy’s without a win, she is well respected in the industry, and she has a lot of respect and is very popular when it comes to the Emmy’s as a whole.

It’s a given that if Maggie Smith wins Drama Supporting Actress, and actually shows up this year, she’ll get a standing ovation. She’s a dame, Academy Award winner, and is a very well-respected and legendary actress as a whole.

I also think Kathy Bates will get a standing ovation if she manages to win for Harry’s Law. She’s on her 11th nomination without a win, and is an Academy Award winner, and well-respected actress.

Melissa McCarthy didn’t receive a standing ovation when she won last year. All six nominees got one as a group before the winner of the pageant was announced.

Al Pacino and Meryl Streep got one when they won for Angels in America, but Al Pacino didn’t get one when he won for You Don’t Know Jack 6 years later.

I’m not sure if Helen Mirren has ever received one. She didn’t get one when winning for Elizabeth I, but what about the following year when she won for Prime Suspect: The Final Act, right after winning Oscar? Anyway, she didn’t even get a standing ovation at the Oscar.

Sally Field and Glenn Close didn’t get a standing ovation when they won, so I believe the same goes for Kathy Bates if she somehow wins this year.

Are standing ovations common at the Emmys? Besides Joosten (maybe?), I can’t really imagine anyone getting a standing O…

Yes, but they weren’t on their 11th nomination without ever winning

I don’t think most audience are aware of that fact, and Harry’s Law is no Angels in America.

No one. The Emmy audience has become so dull. They’re less worried about the awards and the meaning of the ceremony and are fascinated by the fashion. The only people who stand are the people who work with the winners (producers, co-stars, directors, writers…)

If Bryan Cranston wins for the next two years of Breaking Bad, Jon Hamm might get a standing ovation when he finally wins.  Mad Men is probably the most beloved show by the industry and they all know how overdue he is.

Kathryn Joosten gets one if she wins.
Maggie Smith gets one if she shows up and wins.
Larry David gets one if he wins.
Kathy Bates gets one if she wins.
Betty White gets one if she wins (given they bring the host category back to the ceremony).
Jessica Lange MAY get one if she wins.
Amy Poehler MAY get one if she wins.
Ed Harris MAY get one if he wins.
There’s a miniature possibility of Kristen Wiig getting one out of respect if she wins.

Really?! I wonder why! I guess it might be because there is going to be a new winner. But I hope it’s not because Betty White will win. I like her but in no way she is the best host.
