Going back in history of the nominees, how would you have voted for Best Actress since 1980 in the Comedy/Drama races?  Who that didn’t win would you make sure won?  I’ll skip prior to that because I wasn’t alive and didn’t watch any of the shows.

I actually agree with most of the wins but there are clearly some years where someone who won an Emmy too many could have lost and a Emmy bridesmaid could have won in hindsight.

    Best Actress Drama
    1980: Barbara Bel Geddes, Dallas
1981: Barbara Babcock, Hill Street Blues
1982: Veronica Hamel, Hill Street Blues (actual winner Michael Learned, Nurse)
1983: Tyne Daly, Cagney and Lacey
1984, Tyne Daly, Cagney and Lacey
1985: Angela Lansbury, Murder She Wrote (actual winner Tyne Daly)
1986: Cybill Shepard, Moonlighting (actual winner Sharon Gless)
1987: Sharon Gless, Cagney and Lacey
1988: Susay Dey, LA Law (actual winner Tyne Daly)
    1989: Dana Delaney, China Beach
1990: Jill Eikenberry, LA Law (actual winner Patricia Wettig, Thirtysomething)
    1991: Patricia Wettig, Thirtysomething
1992: Regina Taylor, I’ll Fly Away (actual winner Dana Delaney)
    1993: Kathy Baker, Picket Fences
    1994: Sela Ward, Sisters
1995: Claire Danes, My So Called Life (actual winner Kathy Baker)
    1996: Kathy Baker, Picket Fences
1997: Gillian Anderson, The X Files
    1998: Christine Lahti, Chicago Hope
    1999: Edie Falco, The Sopranos
2000: Sela Ward, Once and Again
2001: Lorraine Bracco, The Sopranos (actual winner Edie Falco)
2002: Frances Conroy, Six Feet Under (actual winner Allison Janney)
    2003: Edie Falco, The Sopranos
2004: Allison Janney, The West Wing
    2005: Patricia Arquette, Medium
2006: Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order Special Victims Unit
2007: Sally Field, Brothers and Sisters
    2008: Glenn Close, Damages
    2009: Glenn Close, Damages
    2010: Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer
2011: Julianna Marguiles, The Good Wife
    2012: Claire Danes, Homeland

Only would have changed 9 wins and all were ladies who ended up winning 3 or 4 Emmys at the expense of my winner who was just as deserving yet never won.

    Best Actress Comedy
    1980: Cathryn Damon, Soap
    1981: Isabel Sanford, The Jeffersons
1982: Bonnie Franklin, One Day at a Time (actual winner Carol Kane for a 1 episode appearance on Taxi)
    1983: Shelley Long, Cheers
1984: Jane Curtain, Kate and Allie
1985: Phylicia Rashad, The Cosby Show (actual winner Jane Curtain)
1986: Betty White, The Golden Girls
1987: Rue McClanahan, The Golden Girls
1988: Beatrice Arthur, The Golden Girls
    1989: Candice Bergen, Murphy Brown
1990: Delta Burke, Designing Women (actual winner Candice Bergen)
    1991: Kirstie Alley, Cheers
    1992: Candice Bergen, Murphy Brown
    1993: Roseanne, Roseanne
1994: Patricia Richardson, Home Improvement (actual winner Bergen)
    1995: Candice Bergen, Murphy Brown
1996: Helen Hunt, Mad About You
1997: Helen Hunt, Mad About You
1998: Helen Hunt, Mad About You (really have no problem with Hunt dominating these years as Drescher, Degeneres, Shepard shows were all so forgettable)
1999: Calista Flockhart, Ally McBeal (actual winner Hunt)
2000: Patricia Heaton, Everybody Loves Raymond
2001: Jane Kaczmarek, Malcolm in the Middle (actual winner Heaton)
    2002: Jennifer Aniston, Friends
2003: Debra Messing, Will and Grace
2004: Sarah Jessica Parker, Sex and the City
    2005: Felicity Huffman, Desperate Housewives
2006: Julia Louis Dreyfus, The New Adventures of Old Christine
    2007: America Ferrara, Ugly Betty
    2008: Tina Fey, 30 Rock
2009: Toni Collette, United States of Tara
    2010: Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
2011: Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation (actual winner Melissa McCarthy)
    2012: Julia Louis Dreyfus, Veep

Only would have changed 7. Carol Kane did not deserve a lead award for 1 single appearance. Rashad def deserved an Emmy for her iconic mother if Jane Curtain got 2.  Delta Burke outsubmited Bergen in 1990.  Richardson was underrated and deserved an Emmy that went to Bergen or Hunt.  Flockhart obviously deserved it in either 98 or 99. Kazcmarek deserved it in 2001.  And Poehler 2 years ago.
