Ok, I get that they like “Modern Family” but five Emmys in a row for Best Comedy Series?!?

Come on, do you really mean to tell me that this show is so much better than the other repeat nominees like “The Big Bang Theory” and “Louie”?

Does this show keep winning because it is set in the swanky suburbs with upscale folks?

Is that why it has tied the record set by “Frasier,” another comedy about the rarefied few?

It keeps winning because it is the series with most broad appeal and it doesn’t hurt that it is a really good one too, unless black-ish or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt gets into the series race it will have no hard time at winning again.

Yes, we do mean to tell you that ‘Modern Family’ is so much better than ‘The Big Bang Theory’. It’s not even close.

The organization that nominated Two and a Half Men and Family Guy for Outstanding Comedy Series snobs?

Emmy voters love the broad appeal.

Though I hope they go for another type of broad… BROAD CITY!

    Hah, I couldn’t help myself.

I would not call them snobs, I think they are the exact opposite, and their broad appeal prevents nominations from happening, for example Broad City.

I would argue that Silicon Valley, Girls, Louie, and Veep are the “snobby” shows that have been nominated in recent years.  Modern Family has that broad appeal factor, it’s why the show wins. I am not sure about the TBBT, my guess is the dork factor which adds to snob appeal.  You cite Frasier, but he was a character spun off from a blue collar show, it also had a supporting cast that was not snobby at all.

I would agree with you more if you wrote about Drama series winners. Mad Men was picked has tremendous snob appeal.  Breaking Bad winning at the end smacks of the same.

This is really a topic not so much specifically about Modern Family but about numerous series winning three or beyond top Emmys…while others, also deserved, never won.

It’s been going on, at least in comedy, for the last five decades.

The Dick Van Dyke Show won best comedy series four times in the 1960s. All in the Family (four) and The Mary Tyler Moore Show (three) won a combined seven of the ten years that were the 1970s. Beginning in 1979 with the freshman season of Taxi and leading to the third (of four) Emmys for Cheers in 1989, these two series combined for having won six of those eleven years in best comedy series. In the 1990s, Cheers won its fourth Emmy (1991) and Frasier won its first five season (1994 to 1998). In the 2000s, we had some breathing room in the first half of the decade but ultimately experienced seeing 30 Rock win its first three seasons (2007 to 2009). And, every year thus far in this current decade of the 2010s, the best-comedy Emmy has been awarded to the first five seasons of Modern Family.

When you get down to it…with the last eight consecutive years of 2007 to 2014, there have been only two individual series which have been awarded the Emmy for outstanding comedy series.

This is more about voting patterns. (Or, as I have referred to it, recalling my take on last year’s nominations, “rubber-stamping.”)

The Big Bang Theory is the greatest and funniest comedy since Friends, I want it to win so much, and I don’t really like Modern Family, it’s boring and soooooo overrated !
