I just started watching Cheers again on Netlfix and considering how great Ted Danson was as Sam Malone I still can’t believe how Ted Danson only won two EMMYS for his role in the show’s last four years when he had such great material in the first 7 seasons. I remember a 2-part episode where he was an alcoholic back on the wagon how did he not win for that? I thought the voters love drunk performances isn’t that why Jim Parsons got four for his over-rated show? Can anyone help me explain why he didn’t win until 1990?
As I recall, there were many times where he was very bad at choosing episodes.
I will have to take your word on that because the episodes he submitted for most of those first 7 years are not on the page of submitted episodes here.
I watched the entire show last year and I think 2 is enough. I wouldn’t mind if he had won more than that, you’re right in asking why people like Parsons (and Grammer, Bergen, Hunt, Lithgow, and others) can win many Emmys for their shows why not Danson?, but I don’t think this was the most amazing performance ever. I actually do think that all other leads that have more than 2 Emmys, like those I mentioned before deserve them more than Danson could’ve deserved a 3rd or 4th Emmy.
