Okay, so late last year I started watching The West Wing on Netflix and I’m finally into the 7th season. My question right now is how in the world did Jimmy Smits not get a nomination for his work? He was fantastic throughout the seasons he was on, but IMHO his two finest moments were the debate and Undecides. I am scratching my head as to how he was not even nominated?
Was it a particuarly stiff race that year? I assume he would have competed in Guest Actor? or would he have been in Supporting Actor? I feel like he was really robbed of a nomination; and if nominated I think he could have won.
It’s even more glarring to me that Alan Alda was nominated, and though he did great work, I feel that Smits also did a fantastic job.
What do you guys think? Was Smits considered a contender? I’m shocked he wasn’t nominated. His work was FANTASTIC.
The west wings time was really over by that point. Alda did win but combined being Alda with being on previous favorite west wing. It was running on fumes. It’s nominations were like farewell nominations.
I think that fatigue coupled with new shows being nominated probably caused Smits’ snub.
It’s too bad because Smits gave one hell of a performance in season 7….
Well, I don’t think Jimmy Smits is a very good actor, so that could be one reason.
But he would never be in Guest for Season 7 (Season 6, sure). In Season 7 he’s a regular in the opening credits with one of the two largest roles on the show. If he’s not Supporting in that season, he’s Lead.
