Jane Lynch saunters into this year’s Emmys like a giant. After winning last year, most people think she’s a cinch to repeat. She’s presiding over the event as host. Lynch looks like Emmy queen, eh? But if you watched the experts’ slugfest video (CLICK HERE) that Rob, Chris and I did, you realize that there are some formidable spoilers lurking — chief among them is superstar and multiple Emmy champ Betty White (“Hot in Cleveland”). Who else?
Will Jane Lynch get a painful lesson in humility by the end of Emmy night?July 7, 2011 at 5:23 pm #222316
First off, I don’t think Jane Lynch will repeat. She can but it doesn’t seem that likely. I see this as Vergara (if she submits well) vs. White. Jane is in third position.July 7, 2011 at 5:28 pm #222317
No, Sofia Vergara will. Jane Lynch and Sofia Vergara were pretty much on par last year, but the buzz for Lynch was immense and Vergara’s tape not so good. This year, without the buzz, Sofia Vergara’s path is very clear (yeah, providing she submits well).
Sure there is buzz for Betty White, but I think its only strong enough to get her a nomination (which could be threatened by Wendy Mallick as I can’t see both actresses being nominated, it’ll be an either/or thing)July 8, 2011 at 1:50 pm #222318
Jane Lynch will not win. Depending on how the academy now views Glee after their horrendous second season, there is a chance that she may be the show’s only nominations, or possibly not nominated at all (though I doubt that).July 8, 2011 at 4:34 pm #222319
I think Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, and the show are almost guaranteed nominations., However, Colfer is their only chance at a major win.July 8, 2011 at 4:43 pm #222320
I personally don’t think the show is guaranteed. Especially with its “Desperate Housewives” feel. Also, Jane Lynch getting nominated may be up in the air depending on how much attention the academy wants her to have on Emmy night.July 9, 2011 at 5:52 pm #222321
I think it will come down to Vergara vs. Bowen. They have the best tapes to choose from.July 9, 2011 at 5:55 pm #222322
Definitely those two. Vergara has Unplugged. Bowen has Halloween. Each tape will improve the chances of the other. Ultimately it will be Vergara, though.July 9, 2011 at 6:02 pm #222323
Yeah, I hope Vergara submits Unplugged and Bowen submits Halloween so they can help each other with the tapes. LOL.
Vergara will probably win first though because her role is flashier and fits the current scene-stealer mold of past winners here (Roberts, Pressly, Mullally, Chenoweth, Lynch)July 9, 2011 at 6:04 pm #222324
I think Bowen will be like Jennifer Aniston. She will get nominated in supporting, but will only win if the cast moves to the lead categories.July 10, 2011 at 5:07 am #222325
I agree with everyone, I think at this point it’s Vergara vs. Bowen. I personally am favored towards Bowen, but I think it will be Vergara. If (and this is a big if for Vergara) Sofia submits “Unplugged” and Julie submits “Halloween” (which I think she will since she submitted well last year) then Sofia will win becuase of that whole co-star thing. She is great in “Unplugged”, but with the American accent thing in “Halloween” it would help her immensely. I haven’t watched Hot in Cleveland, but would Betty White really have a good episode?July 10, 2011 at 5:22 am #222326
Karl, that is exactly what I think. White doesn’t have a showcase episode.July 11, 2011 at 11:48 am #222327
Yeah Jane Lynch and Betty White don’t have good enough tapes; neither will win.
If the nominees are predictable, then this race will come down to Vergara, Bowen and Jane Krakowski. I think people keep forgetting that Krakowski has a stack of stellar tapes to choose from this year.
With that said, Vergara is definitely the frontrunner. She has some gut busting, laugh out loud tapes from earlier in the season that will be unbeatable if submitted.
