Simple question Will the Emmy voters give David one final emmy for his incredible work on television through the years?

It’ll probably be one of the Comedy Central guys. Think Colbert if voters know how the calendar works and know Stewart can be nominated next year

The Colbert Report: Series + Writing + Directing + Editing
The Daily Show: Series + Writing + Directing + Camerawork
    Jimmy Kimmel Live!: Series
Last Week Tonight: Series + Writing + Editing + Interactive
Late Show: Series + Directing + Editing + Sound + Camerawork + Lighting
    Real Time:
The Tonight Show: Series + Directing + Interactive

From this, I would think that Colbert is ahead.  Writing, directing and editing is the most prestigious combination above, although the technical prowess of Letterman is impressive.  Fallon just won PGA, which should theoretically be the best precursor, but beng snubbed in writing (and editing) seems fatal.  Here is what went down last year:

The Colbert Report: Series + Writing + Directing + Editing + Editing + Editing
The Daily Show: Series + Writing + Directing + Editing + Editing + Camerawork
Jimmy Kimmel Live!: Series + Editing + Camerwork
    Late Show:
    Real Time: Series
The Tonight Show: Series + Writing + Directing + Lighting + Interactive

Pretty much everything did worse this year, largely because variety talk was only eligible for one editing category this year instead of two.  Still, it revealed weakenesses, as some (Colbert) held up better than others (Kimmel, Stewart).  Outside of that field, the variety talk shows almost all lost ground in other categories as well (Fallon, Kimmel, Maher).  But Letterman went from zero nominations at the bottom of the pack to six at the top!  Maybe there has been a groundswell for him after all.
