I went with Woodley. She was very good and gave a very deep performance in my opinion compared to Dern who was great but one note. It’s not her fault, it was just the writing for her character.July 14, 2017 at 5:41 pm #1202152809

Even with the deserving nomination, I still think Woodley is a one trick pony and hopefully Emmy voters will look past that and vote for Dern who gave an amazing and legit supporting performance
Umm?! Watch her damn films! The Fault in Our Stars, The Spectacular Now, The Descendants, even Snowden! She’s a brilliant young actress in a worthy nomination!

Woodley, only because she clearly had a stronger arch during the season and had more of a character to play. Dern mostly just acted bitchy and made stern expressions.July 14, 2017 at 6:08 pm #1202152855
When I see Woodley’s performances, they remind me of a lesser Rooney Mara. It’s always the same tone, movements, expressions etc. But at least when Mara is excellent, it’s impactful whereas the maximum with Woodley is just simply good.July 14, 2017 at 6:22 pm #1202152859
People are saying Dern was a one note character who was just a bitch the whole time. Are you sure you’re not somehow thinking of Witherspoon? I loved Dern so much because she added layers to the characters that other actresses wouldn’t have.July 14, 2017 at 7:48 pm #1202152907

Dern. But Woodley is getting better with each performance.July 14, 2017 at 9:21 pm #1202152976
Wow I expected Woodley to win this poll easily. Maybe Dern can beat King.July 14, 2017 at 11:04 pm #1202153025

I thought Shailene Woodley’s character had a little more gravitas, so I’d personally vote for her.
As much as I LOVE Dern in everything and especially Big Little Lies, I am going to say Woodley. Both incredible performances, but Dern was a touch one-dimensional for the majority of the show. I mean that was the personality of her character so I get it, but she’d be just a tiny bit below Woodley, whose character was much more complex and multifaceted.

The reason Woodley had more “gravitas” and was less “one-note” than Dern’s character is because Woodley is a lead who committed category fraud to have an easier chance at a nomination. Lead roles tend to be more complexly written than supporting characters.
By saying you’d vote for Woodley over Dern, you’re basically all saying it’s okay for a lead to lie and pretend to be supporting.July 15, 2017 at 11:23 am #1202153388
I’m shocked anyone would say Woodley. Woodley had an interesting storyline but didn’t deliver the gravitas, especially in the later episodes, specifically that finale moment when she makes the realization.
Dern walked away with almost every scene she was in, when she could have been overshadowed by Reese or Nicole.
Der completely elevated her material while Woodley was simply adequate with her outstanding material.July 15, 2017 at 1:39 pm #1202153419
Woodley! (Though I prefer both Hoffman and Pfeiffer)
