People tend to be reverent with the Bard, but I feel like Shakespeare plays are worth playing with. Certainly an adventurous series that takes liberties is no threat to the legacy of the original. Are there any Shakespeare plays that would be worthy of an extended series treatment? The story of the Montagues and Capulets after “Romeo and Juliet”? A “Hamlet” prequel (or a series version of that play they put on in “Hamlet 2”?) 🙂
I’d be interested in an extended look at King Lear.
It could actually be really interesting to see a prequel of Romeo and Juliet where we see what started the capulet montague fued all while knowing how tragically it ends. I don’t remember I think it get’s referenced once or twice in the text but I’m sure it could be expanded upon.
I think an extended version of The Tempest could be interesting, but Lost kind of did that already. Similarly, Empire is basically an adaptation of King Lear, though they have modernized it of course. For me, one of his comedies, like Much Ado about Nothing or As You Like It could be adapted into an interesting Sitcom, whether modernized or not.
