Without the rule change at the Television Academy in 2015 that lessened the importance of episode submissions, would Jon Hamm have won his only Emmy for playing Don Draper on Mad Men?

Is this rule change I’ve heard mentioned on here so much the one about when they expanded the voting?

Jon Hamm would have won anyways.

Of course- even on a panel it was the best tape of the most famous nominee on the last season of one of their favorite shows.

I also think he would have won even if it wasn’t the last year of Mad Men, it was a weak year. He would have won with any Mad Men season against that lineup.

It’s funny Mad Men is my all time favorite show but I never wanted Hamm to win the Emmy because I hated Don so much. Elizabeth Moss and Christina Hendrix are who really deserve the Emmy.

Hamm was really good and im glad he won but I hated Don so much.

Chandler might have beat Hamm on the episode system but I feel like the whole good bye to Hamm was too strong to pass even with a panel.

The tape system was infamously unsentimental, so I take issue with the theory that it would have been sentimental the one year that it was not in play.

Bryan Cranston finally won after years of being snubbed after his streak of wins even though he had great tapes, such as the year for Chandler. Instead of going with Cranston who had the best tape, they went for the sentimental vote for Chandler who was finally nominated.

EDIT: I somehow got mixed up. Ignore what I said about Canstron. I was thinking of when Hamm had the best tape and lost to ChaNdler. I was trying to use that as an example of how the voters got sentimental on the panel over frinday night lights instead of voting for the best tap. It’s sort of funny how I’m trying to use an example of Hamm losing to prove that he could have won his final year.

I’m pretty sure you’re thinking of “Crawl Space” which was actually 2012, the year Damien Lewis won.

There is a reason why Mad Men won 0 acting awards under the tape system.

Harris lost for Commissions and Fees, Hendricks lost for The Other Woman, Hamm and Moss lost for The Suitcase.

Those can’t all be co-incidences, and I really don’t see how Hamm would have overcome it with his final season.

It would have been either or Chandler or Schreiber.

No. They seem to love rewarding the actual show but not the actors. If I’m being honest, that whole show was overrated. Nothing bad about it, but it’s just decent. Shows about patriarchal antiheroes with despicable qualities and involved in some sort of complex crime always gets people riled up.
