This year, especially in the comedy categories, Emmy voters have really embraced TV from a female perspective. Examples include the strong showing for female-led comedies like “Girls” and “Veep” plus the female comedy writing nominations for Lena Dunham and Amy Poehler.
What other examples can you think of where women have really taken over?
The first one that came to mind was when there are three female directors nominated for Comedy Directing last year when Beth McCarthy-Miller was nommed for 30 Rock Live Show, Pamela Fryman for How I Met Your Mother’s Subway Wars, and Gail Mancuso for Modern Family’s Slow Down Your Neighbors. Of course, it was Michael Spiller who won but havign three women nominated over two men is an achievement enough.
Last year was a strong race for comedy lead actress.
^ True that. Tape-wise, it was really enjoyable. Falco has the weakest tape but even that one would have been competitive in a weaker year.
The Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category has seven nominees this year, indicating that it was a particularly strong season for female performances in comedy.
