Caught a rerun this week, my favorite miniseries and top 5 series ever, never noticed how much better it is on a second view, and couldn’t help but notice that only Livingston and Lewis got all the awards attention and buzz.

Which episode do you guys think deserved a nomination in directing or writing?(Only part 6 “Bastogne” got a WGA nod for Bruce C. McKenna)
I think Tom Hanks should’ve been nominated in directing for episode 5.
Which actor deserved a supporting nod??

I agree that Bastogne should’ve also been nominated for writing at the emmys, but how did Donnie Walhberg missed that nomination? He and George Luz were my favorite characters and imho Walhberg’s acting was spot on perfect.

Feel free to answer the Poll on your favorite characters and comment on what should’ve been nominated!!!

PS: Pool is limited by max of 10 options, so ima keep space for the characters that had the most screentime. Feel free to choose “Others” and comment.

Denis…. I’ve always wanted to see this, but never have. Bummed that I missed the rerun, but saw that it was available OnDemand, so I’m downloading all episodes. I did see The Pacific, which I loved, but from what I hear, this is better. So, thank you for bringing it to my attention.  🙂

No Problem. I saw “The Pacific” too, It is just as good, but “Band” is perfect, addictive, hearthbreaking.

I think it blows The Pacific out of the water.

My favourites were Winters, Luz, Bull, and Buck.

I’d give “Bastogne” the writing nod and episode 9 “Why We Fight” the directing nod.

I forgot about episode 9, it was one of the hardest things i ever had to watch,(at one point I found myself crying waterfalls while watching it) it was probably the best episode of the series along with “Bastogne”, should have won writing, but maybe voters thought it was too much exploitation to even consider it??

I do have one point about this episode I didn’t like, it was supposed to be THE EPISODE for Livingston, but I don’t think he is enough of a good actor , can’t help but wonder what other more capable actor could’ve done in his place, imho.

Poll isn’t working for you guys? I can only see my vote there.

Well, it has been a while since some of us have watched it.  I have it on DVD.

(Any wargamers out there?  Here’s Band of Brothers – The Alternate Version: I was playing GMT’s “The Battle for Normandy” and, you guessed it, managed to have E/2/506’s initial drop drift into the English Channel)

Okay… file this under “better late than never”… but I just finished this. Bought the DVD boxed set (packaged with The Pacific) before I even finished it. The last two episodes had me sobbing like a baby (the concentration camp scene, then the very end, when they were saying what happened to each person after the war).  I am speechless.

Yes, it really is.  I cannot stop thinking about it. Ready to start watching all over again.  It took me a while before I could keep the characters straight, so a second viewing will be even better.  Also, just to say this… some of the actors were not my favorites before I watched this, but I came to appreciate them much more. Glad to have seen it, just for that reason alone… but this truly was a masterpiece. And I agree, it is much better than The Pacific, but I’m very happy to have both of them on DVD now.

The second viewing is the best, it is so much greater.

Yes, I can tell. These are the best… the ones that get even better after the second or third (or more) time.
I’ve seen Angels in America about six times, and I still love it. Then, of course, there are those that are
good for one viewing… if that… and you’re done.  But these great ones are to be treasured, and enjoyed
over and over again. Thanks again, Denis, for the heads up.  🙂  We do seem to like a lot of the same things.
