Hi all, just thought I’d inquire about what people would like to see at the Emmys in an ideal world. Regardless of plausibility, your top 6 absolute personal favorites. In this thread we can discuss Drama Actress.

I’ve still got a couple of shows I’m planning to catch up on and several more I haven’t seen (almost impossible to be a TV completist in this day and age, even with shows I already like or would be likely to like), but my current top six (aka the correct list, LOL) is as follows:

    1. Carrie Coon, “The Leftovers”
    2. Keri Russell, “The Americans”
    3. Shiri Appleby, “UnReal”
    4. Krysten Ritter, “Jessica Jones”
    5. Viola Davis, “How to Get Away with Murder”
    6. Ruth Wilson, “The Affair”

    Who are your six?

    1. Caitriona Balfe, Outlander
    2. Keri Russell, The Americans
    3. Viola Davis, How to Get Away With Murder
    4. Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black
    5. Robin Wright, House of Cards
    6. Michelle Monaghan, The Path

This is without me seeing Bates Motel or The Leftovers.

Still got to watch a few things (OITNB and Unreal are on my list) but as for now…

    1. Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey)
    2. Caitriona Balfe (Outlander)
    3. Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley)
    4. Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder)
    5. Kerry Washington (Scandal)
    6. Taraji P. Henson (Empire)

Dockery would be clear frontrunner for me with Henson very vulnerable (I was tempted to have Laura Carmichael or Jamie Clayton)

Pulling from the dream ballot choices I actually don’t have enough ladies to fill the category oop! Keep in mind, though, I only am listing actresses from shows that I have watched the current season of so I had to leave off some performances I have enjoyed in the past. I also am sticking to the categories as dictated by the Emmys.

    1. Carrie Coon, The Leftovers
    2. Catriona Balfe, Outlander
    3. Tatiana Maslaney, Orphan Black
    4. Krysten Ritter, Jessica Jones
    5. Shiri Appleby, UnReal

    1. Eva Green (Penny Dreadful)
Why: One of the best if not THE best performance on television as one of the most fascinating fictional characters I’ve ever seen
    2. Carrie Coon (The Leftovers)
Why: Best performance of season 1 only matched by the improving performances of the rest of the cast in season 2 with what is imo the best ensemble on television
    3. Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black)
Why: After 4 seasons still giving about 5 different performances that could all be emmy worthy on their own
    4. Robin Wright (House of Cards)
Why: Best thing about the odd season and constantly outdoing what’s ask of her
    5. Shiri Appleby (UnReal)
Why: Took on a character that is much more difficult than it might seem and nails every note
    6. Caitriona Balfe (Outlander)
Why: The heart and focus of a very entertaining series that requires her to balance two very different personas

    1. Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
—For her haunting and revolutionary work as Alicia Florrick, the perfect Governor’s wife went into a downward tailspin as her personal and professional live collapses around her.

    2. Viola Davis, How To Get Away With Murder
—-As the cunning and deceptive Annalise Keating, Davis displays a wild mix of bravado, force, vulnerability and depth. She manages to take what could easily be a one-note character and infuse her with depths of humanity and compassion you never see coming.

    3. Keri Russell, The Americans
—-For decades now Russell has proven she is a capable actress and has been largely ignored by award circuits (save for a lone Golden Globe in 98); and on The Americans this critical darling and fan favorite manages a performance so far from the teen roles that once defined her that she shatters all memory of Felicity or The Mickey Mouse Club. Frankly, she is overdue for an Emmy.

    4. Taraji P. Henson, Empire
—Even if her show is uneven at best, Henson displays a level of charisma and talent that easily elevates each and every scene she is in. Even at her worst, Henson is so committed that she simply is Cookie Lyon.

    5. Ellen Pompeo, Grey’s Anatomy
—For 12 seasons Pompeo has lead the cast of this wildly popular network drama; a show that maintains a strong viewership and has gone without a single nomination. As an actress her work has only gotten better with each season. This past season she shattered us as Meredith Grey lost her husband and had to find a way to survive.

    6. Tea Leoni, Madam Secretary
—-Leoni’s work could easily be dismissed as “nothing” or “forgettable” but is more often than not far better than it should be.
