Nominations have just been announced for this year’s Drama League Awards!
This is always the most head-scratching award set to me. The Distinguished Performance award is really a bit ridiculous–how could you possibly weigh all these people against each other? That said, where are Jane Krakowski and Renee Elise Goldsberry?
Just as a wild guess this year, I’ll predict Danny Burstein.
Lin-Manuel Miranda perhaps for his overall accomplishment in Hamilton?
There doesnt appear to be more than two performers from a show…maybe thats why Krakowski and Goldsberry are absent? I dont know the official rules for these awards, but that would seem to explain it.
Strong contenders for distinguished performance:
I cant see it really going to anyone other than those I listed.
Also: SO happy to see Leslie Kritzer here (along with her double-noms-in-same-category at the Lortels) for Robber Bridegroom. One of the highlights of the year for me.
The winners have been announced!
Outstanding Production of a Play:
Outstanding Production of a Musical:
Outstanding Revival of a Play:
A View From the Bridge
Outstanding Revival of a Musical:
The Color Purple
Distinguished Performance Award:
Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton
Lin-Manuel as predicted! I think Musical and Play are sewn up for the Tonys. These revivals could turn out to be our Tony winners as well, but they could easily go to She Loves Me and Long Days Journey.
