Tony & Emmy Award winning actor (and president of the Screen Actors Guild) Ken Howard died earlier today (just five days short of turning 72). He won a Tony Award in 1970 for his featured role in the Robert Marasco play, Child’s Play. He was also the original Thomas Jefferson in 1776 which he of course got to reprise on screen.

i have a question about this?  Since he was the elected president of SAG-AFTRA when he passed does his vice president assume that position or do they have to hold a new election?    Does anybody know the rules?    I’ve read that Gabrielle Cateries is “acting president” does that mean they’ll hold a new election or she’ll just serve as President for the remainder of his elected term?

According to Variety, the SAG/AFTRA Constitution says, “In the event the office of President becomes vacant for any
reason, the Executive Vice President shall assume the duties and
responsibilities of the President set forth in this Constitution until
the next meeting of the National Board, which shall elect from eligible
members a President to serve the balance of the
former President’s unexpired term of office,”

I think the next National Board meeting is in mid-April, and his term lasts for another 18 months or so.
