Jitney is getting the type of ecstatic across the board reviews that means it will be a front-runner for the Best Revival of a Play Tony award, and will likely get a Best Director of a Play nomination. I am wondering, though, from those of you who have seen this production, which actor(s) are most likely to get Featured Actor in a Play nominations? I read this play years ago and my memory is that there really is no lead character, so I assume any acting nominations will be in Featured Actor…
I agree that the whole cast will likely be eligible as featured actors since the play appears to be more of an ensemble piece. As for who could get nominated? I don’t know.
Maybe Anthony Chisholm since his character has a dependency on alcohol. Or Brandon J. Dirden since he plays John Douglas Thompson’s son who was just released from prison.
Reading through the reviews the strongest notices seem to be for John Douglas Thompson, Brandon J Dirden and Anthony Chisholm. Not so much for Andre Holland or the other actors. If anybody has seen the production I would love to know your thoughts…
(actor Ruben Santiago-Hudson’s direction is getting quite a bit of praise too)
According to David Buchanan, he thinks John Douglas Thompson is the cast member most likely to earn an acting nomination. He also thinks it’s possible that Andre Holland and Michael Potts could sneak in as well.
