Everyone is reporting on the film portion of the awards, but the Artios give out kudos for theatre as well! Here are the nominees for the main categories below. Who do you think should win?

The most glaring omission on first glance is “The Great Comet”, but since most of the cast was already in place from its Off (and in some cases Off-Off) Broadway run, casting directors probably had reasons to pass over it for a nomination. It’s also surprising seeing “Paramour” here over “She Loves Me.” Any other noticeable omissions?

    NY BROADWAY THEATRE

“Blackbird”- David Caparelliotis, Lauren Port (Associate)
“Long Days Journey Into Night”- Jim Carnahan, Carrie Gardner
“Noises Off”- Jim Carnahan, Stephen Kopel
    “The Father”- Nancy Piccione
    “The Humans”- Carrie Gardner

    NY BROADWAY THEATRE – MUSICAL

“Fiddler on the Roof”- Abbie Brady-Dalton
    “Hamilton”- Bethany Knox
“School of Rock”- Tara Rubin, Merri Sugarman
    “The Color Purple”- Justin Huff
    “Waitress”- Bernard Telsey, Patrick Goodwin

NY THEATRE – COMEDY AND MUSICAL

“A Bronx Tale”- Tara Rubin, Merri Sugarman
“Cirque Du Soleil: Paramour”- Cesar A. Rocha
“Dear Evan Hansen”- Tara Rubin, Lindsay Levine
    “Lazarus”- Bernard Telsey, Andrew Femenella
“The Robber Bridegroom”- Jim Carnahan, Stephen Kopel

    NY THEATRE – DRAMA

    “Boy”- James Calleri, Erica Jensen
    “Buried Child”- Judy Henderson
“Dada Woof Papa Hot”- Daniel Swee
    “The Effect”- Cindy Tolan
    “The Royale”- Daniel Swee

    THEATRE TOURS

“A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder”- Jason Styres
“Beautiful – The Carole King Musical”- Stephen Kopel
    “If/Then”- Craig Burns
“The Bridges of Madison County”- Cesar A. Rocha
“The Sound of Music”- Rachel Hoffman

The Humans has to be a shoo-in for its category.

If they discounted N, P & the Great Comet for having had most of its casting done off-Broadway, then why didn’t they treat Hamilton the same way?

She Loves Me was the most ideally-cast show of the year to me. First snubbed at the Grammys and now here. Tsk tsk.

The Broadway leads from If/Then did the first six or seven stops of the tour, so is the nomination for casting them or the people who replaced them (save Rapp) later on?
