Does this feel to others like a wide-open race with no frontrunner? I know that on here they have Lena Hall as the favorite, which is strange to me because I thought people were surprised that she was nominated?

I have seen 3 of the nominees: Anika Larsen, Adriane Lenox and Lauren Worsham. I especially enjoyed Adriane Lenox in After Midnight. While I enjoyed Lauren Worsham, I preferred Lisa O’Hare’s performance in GG.  I have not seen Linda Emond or Lena Hall’s performances. I was a bit surprised that Anika Larsen got nominated, although I did enjoy her performance.

I have no idea who is going to win in this category. Anybody want to be bold and make a case for who they think will win? This was the hardest category for me in the predictions center.

Has anybody seen all 5 performances?

My opinion as of now is that Lauren Worsham will win as a result of a sweep of Gentleman’s Guide and it could be a case of them giving an acting win to the show if they do end up giving NPH Best Actor over Mays. I do agree that Lisa O’Hare being snubbed was kind of shocking as I did prefer her a little more as well but Worsham is great in her part of I’ve Decided to Marry You and also her soprano-goodness in Inside Out.

Lena Hall could be a surprise as well, especially if they go completely gaga over Hedwig.

It is a tad surprising Marin Mazzie didn’t sneak in (I am still expecting that she is royally pissed off) because she may have had enough clout to pull off the win even with BULLETS not meeting its expectations.

Maybe Adriane Lenox can win as a bone toss towards After Midnight.

I haven’t seen Linda Emond so I can’t comment on her.

Larsen was solid in the role but I can’t see her winning.

So, now I’d expect Worsham to win with Lenox as the dark horse. It is an exciting race but also a sad one since none of them are truly remarkable IMO. I could see there being a split between the precursors.

I loved Larsen so much and would be pulling for her to win but of the ones nominated I would have her in fourth behind Hall, Worsham and Emond. I do not see Lennoz winning and of the five nominees she has already won. Emond could win as she has not won before but her ditraction is the show. Worsham could be out new bubblebee like Nikki M. James was with Book of Mormon being a winner for the best musical winner as Mays/Pinkham are not winning. Then there is Hall who is equally as impressive as Harris and depending on if Hedwig will sweep she could be one of the many deserved wins. So at the moment I’m going to predict Hall with Worsham being a possible dark horse. I also enjoy O’Hare more and if she were nominated over Worsham I would be more confident in a win by her as she is the more obvious comedic scene stealing role.

Worsham or Hall. Worsham can be the M. James of this year’s Book of Mormom, and there’s no Laura Benanti lol

If not her, they can award Hall as a sign to love for Hedwig.

Lennox, Larsen and Emond (especially for the lack of reviews for her) seems without much of a chance

I also think the race is between Worsham and Hall, with Emond as a dark horse spoiler.

Hall and Worsham both come from the two most loved musicals of the Tonys. Worsham gets to play the ingenue but also shows a lot of great comedic timing. She also has a stunning legit voice, which is becoming a rarity on Broadway these days.  And HedHeads may kill me for saying this, buy Yitzhak is a fairly underwritten character in the show. But Lena Hall really invigorates the material to provide him with much more depth than I thought possible for the role. Not to mention she just destroys that song vocally, shes thrilling to listen to. Linda Emond has gotten very solid notices, and the Tonys frequently try to “fix” things by making up for past snubs or loses (David Hyde Pierce for one), and Emond is a true theatre veteran who will likely get some votes on reputation alone.
