Broadway’s highly anticipated Lysistrata Jones will take its final bow on January 8th. No Tony for you.

Is there anything other than Follies to nominate in the musical categories this year?! Does that bode well for Spiderman? Maybe it was smart of them to push back opening night.. It is CLEANING UP at the box office, afterall.

We will also have Once and Newsies, which are expected to do well. The jury’s still out on Nice Work If You Can Get It and Ghost: The Musical (ugh). Spider-Man will probably benefit from weak competition and get more nominations that it ordinarily would have, but there’s so much baggage with it and antipathy towards it in the Broadway community that it won’t win anything major. (Also, there’s no way it could tour in anything resembling its current format, so the voters who are tour promoters will gravitate towards Newsies since it has the Disney name attached.)

Lysistrata Jones has some supporters, so it will probably get a few noms and should make it into Best Original Score. Once and Nice Work… are likely ineligible for Score, and the nominating committee would probably rather put their eyes out than nominate Frank Wildhorn for Bonnie and Clyde, so that gives LJ an opening.

Nothing bodes well for Spiderman as far as the Tonys are concerned.  It won’t get anything except design awards.

Well I didn’t mean that it will not get a nomination, but a win is pretty impossible.  Well Newsies and Once are definitely in.  It’s between those two for the win.  That leaves two more spots.  If Ghost and/or Rebecca aren’t the worst things ever, they could get in. And although B + C flopped, it did have its fair share of supporters.  If it somehow snuck in with a nomination, I wouldn’t be totally shocked.  A little surprised, yes, but not floored.

There is so much negative press surrounding Spiderman.  Oh, and the show is just awful.
