I recently read Michael Riedel’s book Razzle Dazzle: The Battle For Broadway. It was a very fascinating and entertaining read. It describes how theater moguls like Bernard Jacobs, Gerald Schoenfeld, James Nederlander, Michael Bennett, Andrew Lloyd Webber & Cameron McIntosh brought Broadway theater back from the brink of extinction in the 1970s and 1980s after theater attendance hit an all-time low due to New York’s bad economy and Times Square being full of drug dealers and prostitutes.
The book is now being adapted into a TV miniseries. No casting, network or airdate has been announced yet, but Douglas McGrath has been announced as the writer. I’m sure it will be a fun, juicy show.
