Matt Bogart and Tony nominee Christiane Noll will star in Arena Stage’s production of the musical Snow Child, based on the Pulitzer Prize-nominated novel by Eowyn Ivey. John Strand wrote the show’s book while Bob Banghart and Georgia Stitt wrote the score. The show runs from April 13-May 20. http://www.playbill.com/article/matt-bogart-and-christiane-noll-will-star-in-new-musical-snow-child-at-arena-stageMarch 11, 2018 at 9:17 am #1202511438
Floyd’s, Lynn Nottage’s follow-up to her Pulitzer Prize-winning and Tony-nominated play Sweat, will play as part of the Guthrie Theater’s 2018-2019 season from July 27-August 25, 2019. http://www.playbill.com/article/lynn-nottages-sweat-companion-piece-will-premiere-in-2019-at-the-guthrie-theaterMarch 12, 2018 at 8:04 am #1202511938
The Hollywood Bowl will present a concert staging of Beauty & the Beast that will feature actors singing the score with a live orchestra (similar to what they did with The Little Mermaid a couple years ago). The cast includes Zooey Deschanel as Belle, Anthony Evans as The Beast, Taye Diggs as Gaston, Kelsey Grammer as Lumière, Jane Krakowski as Mrs. Potts, and Rebel Wilson as Lefou…
This is a pretty interesting cast. Hopefully, Deschanel gives a much better vocal performance as Belle than Emma Watson, Kelsey Grammer seems more like a Cogsworth to me, though I love the casting of Jane Krakowski as Mrs. Potts.

Angela Lansbury, Emma Thompson, and Jane Krakowski are three of my very favorite ladies, and now they will all have played Mrs. Potts.March 13, 2018 at 9:35 am #1202512574
North Carolina Theatre is the venue where I go review regional productions they present in Raleigh, North Carolina. They’ve just announced their 2018-19 season, and the four productions they’ll be producing are…
In the Heights: October 16th-21st
Mamma Mia!: February 12th-17th
Murder for Two: April 26th-May 5th
Annie: July 23rd-28th
I’ve never seen In the Heights, but I am a fan of the score. Not to mention that the Triangle area will certainly be getting a double dose of Lin-Manuel Miranda this fall with that and the national tour of Hamilton coming to Durham the following the month. I’m not the biggest Mamma Mia! fan on the planet, so to me, the production will have to depend on who’ll be in it. I’m not familiar with Murder for Two, so again, it’ll to me have to depend on who’ll be in it. Annie was the first theatrical show I ever saw, so it has alway had a special place in my heart. I’ll definitely be looking forward to that.March 14, 2018 at 5:47 pm #1202513341

Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens’ musical Little Dancer, which originally premiered at the Kennedy Center in 2014, will play as part of Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre’s 2018-2019 season from March 22-April 14, 2019. Susan Stroman will repeat her duties as the show’s director and choreographer. http://www.playbill.com/article/susan-stroman-directed-little-dancer-and-more-join-come-from-away-tour-in-5th-avenue-theatre-season
Also, Geva Theatre (which is the main regional theater I go to in Rochester, New York) has just announced that Jan Brady herself, Eve Plumb, will star as Clairee in their production of Steel Magnolias from May 8-June 3. https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/lifestyle/2018/03/14/eve-plumb-jan-brady-geva-steel-magnolias-rochester/423470002/March 15, 2018 at 1:34 pm #1202513895
One of my favorite Disney films as a child, Bedknobs And Broomsticks, is getting a stage adaptation. Chicago Shakespeare Theater will premiere the show as part of their 2018-2019 season from May 30-July 28, 2019. Many of the songs composed by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman from the film are expected to be used, as well as some of their lost songs that didn’t make it into the film as well as new material by book writer Brian Hill and composer-lyricist Neil Bartram. http://www.playbill.com/article/stage-adaptation-of-disneys-bedknobs-and-broomsticks-sets-chicago-world-premiereMarch 16, 2018 at 6:34 am #1202514252

From May 22nd-July 1st, the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. will present a production of Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Lowe’s 1960 musical, Camelot. The production will star Alexandra Silber (who I thought was a wonderful Tzeitel in the most recent Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof) as Guinevere, which was not only the role Julie Andrews originated on Broadway, but also where Walt Disney found his Mary Poppins.

President Kennedy was a big fan of Camelot, which of course is how his administration came to be known as such.March 20, 2018 at 3:02 pm #1202516444
From May 9th-13th, New York City Center will present a concert staging of Me and My Girl. Casting has just been announced, and it will star two-time Tony winner Christian Borle and Olivier Award winner Laura Michelle Kelly…
What’s interesting about this is that Laura Michelle Kelly originated the title role in the West End production of Mary Poppins. While she didn’t go on to originate it on Broadway, she still got to play Mary twice during its run, and one of her former Berts was Christian Borle.March 21, 2018 at 7:05 pm #1202517350
