Some of these names may be considered Featured Actor; these are the 14 actors who seem likely to be eligible for the Tony. Anyone missing?

    Dennis Arndt, Heisenberg
    Chris Cooper, A Doll’s House, Part 2
    Gideon Glick, Significant Other
John Benjamin Hickey, Six Degrees of Separation
    Kevin Kline, Present Laughter
    Nick Kroll, Oh, Hello
    Joe Mantello, The Glass Menagerie
    Jefferson Mays, Oslo
    Simon McBurney, The Encounter
    John Mulaney, Oh, Hello
    Richard Roxburgh, The Present
Mark Ruffalo, Arthur Millers’ The Price
    Liev Schreiber, Les Liaisons Dangereuses
    John Slattery, The Front Page

My current predictions in that category are…

    Denis Arndt-Heisenberg
    Gideon Glick-Significant Other
John Benjamin Hickey-Six Degrees of Separation
    Kevin Kline-Present Laughter
    Jefferson Mays-Oslo

My guesses are as below. I think Glick is the only performance that’s created a fully fleshed character this year so I’m hoping the show stays open long enough for him to clinch that Tony!

    Gideon Glick-Significant Other***
John Benjamin Hickey-Six Degrees of Separation
    Kevin Kline-Present Laughter
    Jefferson Mays-Oslo
    Richard Roxburgh – The Present

It’s looking like the Tony will be Jefferson Mays vs Kevin Kline. I’m hoping it will be Mays because I absolutely loved OSLO.

The last time Kevin Kline and Jefferson Mays were both up against each other was in 2004, where Mays ended up winning for I Am My Own Wife. Will history repeat itself, or will Kline get some revenge?

If Kevin Kline ends up winning, he’d be following-up Frank Langella as a Tony winner for Lead Actor in a Play, and they both have quite a bit of connections. Langella was also up against both Kline and Mays in 2004 for Match, he played the role of Garry Essendine in the 1996 revival of Present Laughter, and appeared opposite Kline in the 1993 film Dave.

I agree that now that Significant Other is closing, Glick will have to content himself with a nomination. Agreed its Kline v. Mays for the win, edge to Kline, with Roxburgh a safe fourth after Glick. That fifth slot is still up for grabs. Methinks Cooper could wind up supporting, but he probably has a better shot at a nomination in lead. If not, then Arndt, Hickey, and Ruffalo are all viable contenders.

Though if Corey Hawkins ends up being eligible as a Lead Actor for Six Degrees of Separation like how Courtney B. Vance was for that same character in the original production, he could contend as well.

Early reports are that Hawkins is the weak link in the Six Degrees cast.

Interesting that Hawkins got drama league when all the (male) buzz has been on John Benjamin Hickey. They may split the vote against each other for tony nom votes, and neither will get it. I still would LOVE for Gideon Glick to get not just the nom, but the win. Maybe he’ll get the sympathy vote. Thoughts?
