You guys, I finally got the chance to see this show and all I can say is BRILLIANT. It was hysterical, heartbreaking, sweet and everything I wanted it to be and more.
I am so glad that it got 4 acting nominees this year (also upset Sigourney didn’t get nominated because she’s amazing in this role, but I know it’s a crowded year for Best Actress). The acting in this show is really what stood out to me. At any moment, each actor threatens to steal the show from each other. And each have plentiful moments to steal the show from each other.
But I think the one actor who takes that title is David Hyde Pierce. In his 11 o’clock rant about change, I was watching with my mouth dropped wide open for the entire 10 minute monologue. Hysterical. Some of the most magnificent 10 minutes of theatre I have ever seen. I didn’t want it to end.
Overall though, I think Billy Magnussen has the greatest chance of winning his category. With a crowded year in both Best Actor and Best Actress in a Play, and with the hyped performances of Judith Light and Judith Ivey in Best Featured Actress, I think Billy could pull off a win in Best Featured Actor. Call me crazy but everytime he was on stage, no matter what he was doing, I could almost not take my eyes off of him because he completely embodied that character. Yes, he may be annoying at times but he’s SUPPOSED to be! He was commanding the stage last night and he has my vote for Best Featured Actor in a Play!
Oh and I don’t see how this can not win Best Play. It has to. If Lucky Guy beats it out, I will be highly upset.
