Kelli O’Hara is an incredible actress and singer that truly deserves a Tony, but as we know, time and time again she is passed over for someone else.  What  are the the years where you think she deserved to win?  What are your thoughts on why didn’t?  If not her,  what are your preferences for those years?

Kelli O’Hara has given three win-worthy performances (Piazza, South Pacific, Bridges) but has never been my personal winner.

    2005: Celia Keenan-Bolger
2006: Sutton Foster or Patti LuPone
    2008: Patti LuPone
    2012: Cristin Milioti
    2014: Sutton Foster

I hope to be able to finally give her the win for The King and I.

2005: This was really an apples-oranges comparison in the most extreme way possible. Whereas O’Hara was divine and beautiful in PIAZZA…the winner Sara Ramirez was a life force and truly hilarious and one of the few highlights in an otherwise overrated musical. I tend to go back and forth over who I would go for here.

2006: I loved her in Pajama Game, but I would place LaChanze and Sutton Foster ahead of her.

2008: O’Hara was the best Nellie Forbush I have seen and she made me, for the first time, care about the character and find her compelling…..but she had the unfortunate situation of being up against Patti LuPone giving the performance of her career thus far.

2012: My least favorite of her nominated performances. It was solid and serviceable at best.

2014: She would have had my vote for my BRIDGES in a very close battle with Sutton Foster, who gave her best performance so far in her career.

it will be interesting to see how this year pans out because I feel like it could shape up to be the time to reward her unless someone else really takes off or Chita Rivera comes in and gets a huge surge to win a 3rd Tony (in my opinion, she should have 4).

I would have voted for Kelli for Piazza and not thought twice about it. The complexity of her character there and degree of difficulty in that performance separate her from everyone else for me.
