At last night’s 70th Annual Tony Awards telecast, Barbra Streisand made her first appearance at the Tonys since 1970, when she was awarded a Special Tony Award for “Star of the Decade.”
If the “Star of the Decade” Tony Award still existed, who do YOU think would have won in 1980, 1990, 2000, and 2010? It’s difficult to find any formal Tony criteria on how they determined the winner of the award – if somebody does come across any, please post it! It looks like the winner should have at least been nominated for a Tony in the previous decade, i.e. Barbra was nominated for Funny Girl in 1964, but lost to Carol Channing in Hello, Dolly!.

Maybe Nathan Lane in 2010, after having become legendary with The Producers
Perhaps Audra in 2000–she won three Tonys in the prior decade, but she still wasn’t a household name the way Streisand and Lane are
Julie Harris, Patti LuPone, Nathan Lane and Sutton Foster
1980 Liza Minnelli
1990 Michael Crawford
2000 Rosie O’Donnell
2010 Nathan Lane
I can’t imagine Chita not taking one – probably in 1980 over Liza.
1980 – Chita Rivera
1990 – Patti LuPone
2000 – Audra McDonald
2010 – Nathan Lane
