I have a feeling Adele might not sweep the General Field. The GRAMMYs may want to spread the wealth this year. IT IS Possible.

"Loud" could upset and win Album Of The Year!

Im iffy with Adele. Sometimes I think she's gonna sweep but sometimes I dont. She has the buzz and success to do it so if anyone does it, its gonna be her. I do expect a few suprises. A few months ago I would been okay with Nicki Minaj winning BNA but she's already off to a bad start with her second with those horrible new singles she just released. Im rooting for The Band Perry or J.Cole. mostly The Band Perry. |

LMAO! Upsets happen all the time, but Rihanna won't be one of them. Do Mumford & Sons even have enough buzz to cause an upset in ROTY? I know rock bands tend to win here, but they don't feel like Coldplay, Kings of Leon or U2, and "The Cave" certainly isn't "Clocks," "Use Somebody" or "Beautiful Day." I think they got in mainly because the panel was trying to find some cool, credible contenders to compete against the hitmakers. Bon Iver have more buzz than M&S. I just don't see it for them. And the last time two ROTY and SOTY nominees split the categories was way back in 1994 when "All I Wanna Do" took ROTY and "Streets of Philadelphia" took SOTY. Not saying that's impossible that "Rolling in the Deep" loses one category to another ROTY/SOTY nominee, just that it doesn't happen often. The voters may wanna spread the love to avoid the predictability since everyone is expecting a big sweep for Adele, or they could really go predictable and let her sweep like predicted just like Santana and The Dixie Chicks. Adele is probably most vulnerable in AOTY. That's the category that pulls the most upsets. |

Everytime I think Adele might lose, I think of a few points: -I sometimes forget her two previous wins...as an UNKNOWN to many. -If she doesn't sweep, which categories and who will win then? Bon Iver and Mumford and Sons may cause vote splitting. People who are into one have likely listened to the other. Foo Fighters are filling a slot, Bruno and Katy are likely too light weight to win one of the big ones. I suppose Kanye could spoil, but then again...his d-baggery attitude may be hard to look past from the broader academy perspective. -She has followers from across all genres, appeals to all ages, Rolling in the Deep is the kind of song that'll play well with conservative voters. |

If you actually think about it, Rihanna may be a dark horse in AOTY. She will get all of the urban vote along with some of the pop field vote. I'm not saying she is going to win or has any chance, but if for some out of this world reason she did win AOTY, I probably wouldn't be surprised. |

My predictions are admitedly always off, but I still want to make my point. -I think that Bon Iver was misplaced. I love "Holocene' but Bon Iver (the album) works as a whole, It just doesn't make sense to me that it was nominated in the single/song categories (ROTY, SOTY) and not Album. THAT would have been competition for 21, and looking at the nominees, nah, it is Adele's. And now that 2011 is over, with Adele having the best-selling album, song and video, I don't think she has a viable contender. Maybe the only nominee that I see with a slight chance to upset is The Foo Fighters (veteran status, good sales, good reviews), but considering that the Grammys are an industry award, why not reward the act that has been consistenly showing success during the whole year? I am not saying that sales are the only factor that counts, but hey, Fearless won AOTY after all even with less impact in singles than that 21 showed last year. -Adele had a recent surgery. Can you imagine the PR move that would mean "Adele's comeback performance after her recovery"? -@ st jimmy - You can forget that Adele won two Grammys before, but a high-profile win would validate NARAS choice as Best New Artist. - How can Rihanna win AOTY? The last time a pure vocalist with no writing credits won AOTY was Celine Dion's "Falling Into You". Nuff said. I wanted to count Norah Jones here, but she does have one writing credit (Come Away With Me). And Rihanna is never considered when the words "best vocalists" are mentioned. Have you watched those live performances? I don't see it for her. - And about the communist mentality of "spreading the wealth", who has won 5+ Grammys a night? 1) Lauryn Hill 2) Alicia Keys 3) Norah Jones 4) Beyonce (DIL era), (won 6, IASF era) 5) Amy Winehouse 6) Dixie Chicks I think Adele fits that mold perfectly. I can picture her taking the 6 she is nominated for easily. -When haven't the Grammys been predictable? Only last year at the very last minute and that was an exception. Don't you guys remember the year Robert Plant & Allison Kraus won? and the year Dixie Chicks won? Let us not go that far. Last year with Lady Antebellum and their 5 wins. Predictable wins left and right. I actually think Adele is expected to sweep. |

So, the Urban voting block will give Rihanna an AOTY before they give it to Kanye or Jay Z or Beyonce.

Honey, Adele is so winning ROTY and SOTY. She is most vulnerable in AOTY. She is battling it out with the Foo Fighters; veterans that are highly respected by NARAS. My bet is her to win AOTY. Girlfriend is winning at least 5 awards. The question is, which categories? |

Right. I just don't see any scenario where Rihanna wins AOTY. She's just not credible enough to win this coveted award. I would rank her dead last. As for Adele, she has a strong mix of commercial success and critical acclaim. The album is by far the best-selling of the year, produced three big hits (two which are nominated), and has made a ton of year-end lists. Not to mention, she has a DVD that is doing amazing. I do acknowledge that there are surprises every year, and we should be prepared just in case, but we all know how predictable NARAS can be. And to be honest, outside of a few Internet heads, an Adele sweep would not disappoint critics or the industry. Now Foo Fighters may be a threat to win AOTY. They are the veterans of the bunch and has strong acclaim themselves, and they are up against Pop Vocal Album nominees. Lady GaGa may have a chance just because it's her third nomination and they may want to throw her a bone, but her era feels like a semi-dud. I mean, just look at how "Marry The Night" is performing with all of the promo it has had. In Song of the Year, Bon Iver may be a threat given all of the acclaim they have gotten. But "Rolling in the Deep" is soooo respected and acclaimed, and the mega success is a cherry on top. It doesn't feel like any old hit. Everyone has covered the song and spoke great things about it. I guess we'll have to see what happens next month. |

If The Band Perry, J.Cole or Nicki Minaj wins BNA that would make up for the awful wins from the last few years. I'll be okay if either of the three win. |

I wouldn't call the last few wins in BNA "awful." We've had John Legend, Carrie Underwood, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Zac Brown Band and Esperanza Spalding winning recently. Although some of them aren't my cup of tea, their wins are acceptable. By the way, Bon Iver would make a worthy BNA winner this year. |

Carrie Underwood and Amy Winehouse were the last BNA winners that I actually rooted for. Even tho I want Cole, Nicki or Perry to win BNA, Im willing to bet that Skrillex or Bon Iver wins. |

I've been back and forth between Bon Iver and The Band Perry, but I think this will come down to critical respect, and Bon Iver have tons of it. I'm almost confident that they will win it. |
