Nicole finds out about EJ's affair with Sami.

These moments are a dime a dozen on soaps, but Zucker was still captivating throughout the whole thing.  A room full of great actors and she owned every moment of it.

Alison Sweeney - Sami Hernandez

Sami and Marlena continue to argue.  Will shows up and tells Sami that Marlena knows about Sami and EJ, setting off a chain reaction of anger, accusations, guilt, self-loathing, vulnerability and, of course, defensiveness from Sami.  They try to convince Sami to tell Rafe the truth.

I thought Alison Sweeney did an excellent job here with Sami's changing emotions and really hit each one.  A lot of her big scenes can be too much shouting and just not show much range, but here she did a great job of being both wrong daughter and selfish mother, victim and perpetrator, angry and apologetic, defensive and vulnerable, awful and sympathetic.


I was going to come here and cite this because there were parts of this that were really good for Sweeney, minus the beginning when she was screeching but this is a definate plus for her.

Sonny explains to Sam that Robin was like a little sister to him.  

I'm a sucker for flashbacks, but these scenes got me even before the Christmas flashback. The part that broke my heart was watching Sonny lament not making things right with Robin (after the shooting in front of Emma) when he had the chance. I was really impressed with Benard in these scenes. I'm so used to seeing him scream at the top of his lungs, I didn't know he still had it in him to give such an emotional, nuanced performance.

Spinelli has to tell Maxie that Robin died and she refuses to believe it.  Maxie finally realizes that Spinelli is telling her the truth and breaks down.

I'm pretty sure Lilley qualifies in the Younger Actress category, but I can't find her age.  Lilley has grown into the role over the past month or so and I think this could be a good submission for her.

Guest Actress - Finola Hughes (Anna, GH)

Patrick has to tell Emma that her mother is gone.  Robert goes to see Robin's body in the morgue.  Anna comforts Patrick as he prepares to tell Emma and finds Robert after he has seen Robin's body.

Great stuff from all three even though I am not a big fan of the overall story.  When Patrick was trying to tell Emma but just couldn't bare it and Elizabeth has to tell her made me tear up.

Christie Clark - Carrie Reed

Carrie tells Rafe about Austin sleeping with Abigail.  She goes through feeling angry and vengeful before admitting her own guilt and confessing to Rafe that she's fallen in love with him.

I watched this twice, and just thought it was really strong.  Clark hit the beats well, playing all the emotional shifts distinctly but smoothly.
