Thanks for the link. I have a read some of Django, and it really does look like DiCaprio is getting his Oscar.

DiCaprio hadn't been a supporting player since Celebrity in 1998 and now he can finally win an Oscar... for supporting lol but I just need to remember that the legend Vanessa Redgrave had only one in this category too for being happy again hahahaha |

I'd like to see the Academy really take a liking to The Hunger Games and its actors. It seems to have the edge to do that.

I'm reading EXCELLENT scene stealing reviews for Rebecca De Mornay in Mother's Day. Apparently she plays psycho to a T, could maybe sneak in if it's a weak field. |

I'm starting to think that Jennifer Lawrence will end up emerging as a frontrunner for Best Actress for "The Silver Linings Playbook" for the following reasons: -A preview screened at Cannes today, and reviewers say that she rises above her entire ensemble and gives off an "older" vibe that she hasn't given off in any of her previous roles. -She is working with a director who very recently directed two actors to an Oscar. -Increased exposure from The Hunger Games will help the Oscars seem more in touch (a la Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde/Walk the Line). -Babe factor. -She'll probably win the Golden Globe for Actress in a Musical/Comedy for this role. -Her role seems extremely baity. -The role of Anna Karenina has yet to win an actress an Oscar. -Lack of competition. Perhaps Lawrence is actually an unlikely frontrunner in this race.

Epic fail, this, because mainstream moviegoers aren't dumb. They'll scratch their heads and see right through it should it come to pass and that she will wind up being nominated for the wrong film, like Kate Winslet was re: The Reader vs. Revolutionary Road. Oscars will prove they are even MORE out of touch if they go with Lawrence for this instead of THG. The 2013 ceremony is looking more and more like the 1% (the hardcore arthouse festival elite; as in movies ONLY critics will like for the most part, perhaps) vs. the 99% (The Hunger Games, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit, if the latter 2 hit home runs as we're hoping they do.). But when the decked is so stacked against critic/fan hybrid favorites actually winning trophies, I don't hold out much hope for justice. Or at the very least, an even playing field. |

If you care so much about studio mainstream box office hits getting Oscar nominations then go be an Oscar campaigner. Do you really think that your incessantly petulant whining about how "out of touch" the Oscars are on a forum website is going to do anything to change that? None of us here have any power over the academy, we just like to watch movies and predict the winners of Oscars. And frankly, if this is the way that you WOULD protest the academy (childish and whiny), they wouldn't listen to you either. By the way, the fact that you always seem to end your posts with "I have no hope" or "I have given up on the academy" implies that even you don't support your own cause. So please, just shut your mouth for once.

I think that Lawrence is going to get nominated for Silver Linings, but won't win. That nomination would, for me, be in the mold of Julia Roberts' 1990 nomination for Pretty Woman. A young actress in her early 20s on her second nomination, emerging as the next big star in Hollywood and being groomed to win eventually, but still a bit too young and with too comedic a performance to win. |
