Thanks for posting this, eastwest. I had not seen the younger acting categories' lists yet, and I'm really happy that Shelley Hennig is on the list. I know she barely made it into February last year, but she was fantastic while she was on and had a storyline. I also find it hard to believe that Christel Khalil is still eligible for younger actress. It seems like she's been in this category forever and ever. I can see why Sweeney never gets a nom, I HATE her crying or angry scenes. She is not a good crier and she has this strained voice when she is yelling that I find cringe inducing. |

^Totally agree! I mean I think she has solid to great moments for herself and on the type of show she is on, but when it comes to Emmys when comparing that to her peers, all that shouting and carrying on is only a good look if you are seasoned at it. And, I hate to go here, but the only reason I think James Scott has been getting nods is b/c he's the only actor that does that in daytime and it is something that is different than the competition. And of course he's classic leading man and British. But back to Sweeney, this has been a downhill slope since whoever decided to submit what she did when she had her strongest chance to date to finally score a nomination in 2010, she went w/her doing a bad Susan Flannery impression, or what I call current day Susan Flannery. |

I couldn't believe Alison Sweeney submitted that reel in 2010. What a poor decision that was, when she had those really emotional scenes with poor baby Grace dying. I think Sweeney is great at times, she really does have her moments, but she never seems to see them. The character of Sami is so much about yelling and overreacting and, I don't know, crying aggressively that she seems to always get caught up in that rather than submitting performances where Sami is more balanced and shows more range. Sweeney could have had a strong reel last year with the episode where Sami and Rafe get married. EJ shows up at the wedding at takes the kids, so Sami goes from really high to really, really low, and she's got no control over the situation, so she's not screaming constantly and she's actually sympathetic. James Scott probably does stand out because he cries more and is generally more emotional in his reels than a lot of actors, but he's a damn good actor. Plenty of actors have scenes where they are emotional and crying or supposedly crying, but they don't usually do it as well as he does. RE-HIRE CHRISTIE CLARK! |
