I really sucked at predicting the tech wins this year - when I said Hugo, the award went to The Artist; when I said Artist, Oscar went to Hugo. Throw in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo winning Editing, and I almost gave up right then and there. After Foreign Film, though, I was pretty solid. On a seperate note, they need to fix those Original Song category rules, stat. Drop the average score, or whatever they have to do. This category has enough detractors as is. Nominating two songs per year is going to do it no favors.

This is the third year in a row that a film outside of the major studios/their subsidiaries has won Best Picture. I believe this is tied with the Dreamworks streak at the turn of the century for most in a row. It's something that's good at least about success for the Weinsteins. They might be horrible, but at least it's support for something besides the media conglomerates. |

I'm sad that Viola lost, but hey you can't really complain when you lose to Meryl Streep. I'm glad that she finally won her Oscar. Hopefully Viola will come back and win her damn Oscar lol. |

The categories that hurt me were the Short Films. I don`t know why I didn`t just predict the favorites on those. I agree with you about the Original Song category, Spenser. It is pretty sad when there is only two nominees in the category. |

I predicted Hugo for three Oscars, not five. But, I'm happy that Tattoo won the editing Oscar apart from the Best Picture winner. It's like Bourne winning editing. I like the separation and dont think it's always a great idea to link the editing award with the Best Pic winner. I didnt expect Hugo to win the cinematography award, but I did have a very bad feeling about Lubezki. It seems to happen a lot with the Academy. But, at least it didnt go to The Artist, which I thought might pull in a lot more awards towards it's biggest wins. The Sunne in Splendour; I prefer my Roses White |

| I am very happy Streep won, but I do hope that Viola wins an Oscar at some point in her career. | |

Any time someone has -- pardon my French (pun intended, under the circumstances) -- the balls to tackle a silent film in this day and age, and apparently do it well, they deserve support. Heck, even if a film turns out terribly, if the filmmakers set out to do something original and creative, I will jump on their bandwagon. I'd rather have mediocre originality than brilliant rehashes.

I'm happy she won, but wish that she'd won for a better vehicle. She gave a superb performance in a cluelessly directed film. But looking at the losses she'd endured over the years, this is special. Next, August Osage County. Even if she sleepwalks through that role, she would get nominated (sorry Sasha, that's 2 years from now). Looking back, I don't think it was as close as the bloggers and the so called oscarologists thought it would be. Kudos to Tom O Neil and Seanflynn for noticing the change of tides at the eleventh hour. To me, Davis' buzz waned when The Help missed out on screenplay. But she will be unbeatable the next time she gets nominated. |

I'm most happy for you, Streepfan. You have remained a class act throughout.

Kudos to Tom O Neil Well sure, but Meryl was always a threat, right from the beginning, and I;ve seen these 11th hour predictions before, ala Alan Arkin, I stuck with Davis right to the end. She could have won just as easily imo. The Sunne in Splendour; I prefer my Roses White |

No doubt it was a hard one to call, but I don't think it was that close babypook. |

The Best Actress race is one where I'd love to see a vote count. Uneducated guess, but I think there were less than 500 votes separating them. |
