Just wanted to throw it out there, big Lange plugger that I am:
The actress, who won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award for her work as the hateful, bigoted (and extremely delicious) Constance Langdon, has signed a new deal to stay with the horror franchise. But she won’t reprise her memorable role in the new season, which resumes production in late July for a mid-October return to FX. She’ll play someone entirely new, promises Murphy. “We have designed the second season of American Horror Story completely around her character,” Murphy told EW exclusively. “Last year Jessica came in with Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott. This will really be the Jessica Lange show so I’m very excited about it. We are designing this amazing new opposite of the Constance character for her. She and I have spoken about different things. She has a lot of ideas, and has a lot of input into her character. She told me some things she has always wanted to play as an actress. She’s a great collaborator and a great friend.” “I really sweated this negotiation,” continues Murphy, “so I’m glad she is firmly on board.” Get more EW: Subscribe to the magazine for only 33¢ an issue! Lange is not the only actor from season 1 who will return for a second year. Murphy said he signed three more, but won’t reveal their identities until Friday when he and the AHS cast members participate in the annual PaleyFest in Beverly Hills. (EW’s own Tim Stack will moderate.) Obviously, Britton and McDermott, a.k.a. the Harmons, won’t return because they perished at the end of season 1. That means potential returnees could be Denis O’Hare (Larry Harvey), Evan Peters (Tate Langdon), and Frances Conroy (Moira O’Hara). AHS season 2 will take place on the East Coast and will involve a horror institution. Regrettably, that’s all we can get from Murphy.  |

I really look forward to having her back on the show, though we don't know if the character she plays could ever be able to live up to the fabulous Constance. I saw this article last night, and several commenters rightly pointed out that the Harmons perishing has no bearing on whether Connie Britton or Dylan McDermott would come back, since duh, everyone would be playing different characters. (That said, I'm not saying they necessarily *will* be back, but the real question is whether they have other roles lined up that would preclude them returning). |

I thought Murphy had said outright that Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton weren't returning? I love Lang and loved her as Constance, but the "all Lange, all the time" kind of tone I'm getting worries me. It reminds me of what happened with Chris Colfer on Glee, where Kurt went from being a supporting character I really enjoyed to being completely overbearing and irritatiing. It's not the same thing, but I just hope this goes well. CONGRATULATIONS DAYS OF OUR LIVES! | Not that I'll be watching... but all Lange all the time may not be a bad thing for this show. She's the only character the writers seem invested with. Lange can certainly carry the show. All they would need to do is actually put some decent characters around her. | |

That might very well be. I forget what he said. But the EW writer stated that they wouldn't return because their characters perished, and that would obviously not be the reason. If there are 3 actors coming back to the show, and I could pick them, I'd pick Lange, Evan Peters, and either Dennis O'Hare or Frances Conroy (the latter not necessarily because her character was the best in season 1 but just because in general, I love her). |

^Conroy has been cast as the lead of an NBC pilot, so it's doubtful she'll be back. I hope Evan Peters returns. |

I knew she was going to get bumped to Lead somehow.. Her buzz is far too large on this show.. Is anyone a bit sad the character of Constance is gone? Is anyone slightly worried for Lange the character is gone? I would go nuts if Lily Rabe was the third! Along with O'Hare, Peters and Lange. |

The Season 2 cast of FX's horror anthology series American Horror Story is beginning to take shape. Following a four-episode guest stint as one of the haunted abode's former residents, Zachary Quintowill return as a series regular in the upcoming sophomore season of the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk drama, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Quinto joins Season 1 SAG and Golden Globe award winner Jessica Lange as cast members set to return to the series, with co-creator Murphy confirming her return early last month. Following its breakout freshman season that featured the deaths of the Harmon family (played by Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton and Taissa Farmiga) who moved into the haunted L.A. abode, Murphy told reporters that Season 2 will feature an entirely new setting, story and cast. During a visit to Bravo's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last month, Murphy said he was in negotiations with "four of the people who were on last year's show" but confirmed the Harmon trio would not be among them. Murphy is expected to announce additional cast members for the horror anthology series Friday at the opening night of PaleyFest 2012 in Los Angeles. American Horror Story, which likely will return in October, will take place in an East Coast mental institution and center on Lange's new character. (In Season 1, she played the nosy, all-knowing Constance, who lived next door to the evil property.) I'm thrilled about Zach Quinto. He and Lange were my two favorite things about season one. I'd also like to see Evan Peters and Denis O'Hare return.

Okay, I didn't mention Quinto in my "wish list" of returnees, but I'll take him!! I think that he and Lange will make great antagonists and play off each other really well. I'm still hoping for Evan Peters as the third. And I'm glad to hear that Conroy has other work, so we'll get to see her in something else! |
