Damn, these new songs are fantastic. Gorgeous, gorgeous new stuff from her. This just jumped up to one of my most anticipated albums of the year. Fiona Apple has always delivered strong work, but this new music sounds truly inspired. |

Until the new songs sink I'll say "Not About Love", "Extradinary Machine" and "Fast As You Can" are my favorite Fiona songs. AWW is just so organic and upbeat and clever. "Paper Bag" is also of favorite of mine, but I think it's brought down a bit by its whiny atmosphere and a couple of ehh lines. |

Nothin ehh about Paper Bag to me. "I want him so bad, oh it kills. But I know I'm a mess he don't wanna clean up" maybe a little whiny, but I understood her too well.

| It's a very good song, and I know many Fiona fans consider it her best. It's just a lil to pretty and commercial, and the second verse isn't a favorite of mine. | |

Yeah you got a point there. And indeed, I prefer the 1st verse as well. In the 2nd she's getting a little too direct, maybe even too specific, with that conversation and doesn't leave all that much room for speculation. Not that I feel the need to defend myself for liking a more commercial song with Paper Bag, but my 2nd fave would be Tymps which is arguably one of the most experimental and vague songs she's got in her repertoire.

So there are some nice scenes, in particular the underwater ones and Paris at night with the snail and squid. But I don't understand what the animal symbolism should represent if there is some greater meaning behind it. And the squid wig and light technicians brandishing glowing sticks behind Fiona rather leave me confused than impressed. I'm usually someone who digs super skinny girls, and uses the term "too skinny" only for people whose collarbones look like they would pierce through the skin that is covering them with any movement. But Fiona should start eating a little more or stop the pilathes. That look is a bit scary.

The album is streamimg now on NPR: http://www.npr.org/2012/06/10/154422085/first-listen-fiona-apple-the-idler-wheel Her best fucking work yet. And it's not a question. Even after liking the first three songs I didn't think I'd end up saying that. . I like that video quite a bit. But yeah, bitch eat burger. |

Someone made a video to "Every Single Night" using footage from the film 'Black Swan'. It's kinda cool. "Every Single Night" (Black Swan) |

I love the album. And that sequence of "Daredevil" followed by "Valentine", "Jonathan" and "Left Alone" might be the strongest of all her albums. Over time, this might become my favorite albums of hers. Right now, it's still "Extraordinary Machine", but once I live with this one more, I can see it happening. I already think some of songs are among her best ever. The whole album is just amazing though. |

It's way too short. I can't believe it everytime when I reach AWW again, and realize there are only 2 songs left. It just flies by so quickly. After "Hot Knife" I really don't want to go back to the start and ESN again. I skipped that track a lot lately, probably because I have listened way too many times to it before. but still, at the moment it's the weakest track for me. This could very well become my favorite album by her. "Left Alone" and "Hot Knife" are my favorites as of now. I want a video to the former.

If "When the Pawn..." is her alt pop/hip-hip album and Extraordinary Machine is her alt caberet album, then this is her alt jazz album. A lot of random instrumentation is thrown in. Songs stop and restart then twist into something else. It reminds me of Jon Brion's Extraordinary Machine, but while the bells and whistles on that album got in the way of Fiona, this one's quirks walk hand and hand with Fiona. She's on the ride too. She seems amazingly confident in the midst of all this loopiness. If this doesn't become my favorite work of hers (and it likely will), it is her best work. favorites: Hot Knife, Daredevil, Every Single Night, Anything We Want |
